Dire wolves may be found throughout Barovia, but seem to be especially fond of the Old Svalich Woods. They are one of at least two species referred to by the lay as Barovian wolves.

Dire wolves can be encountered in the domains of in Dominia[1], Invidia[2], Kartakass[3][4], Mordent[5], 
Saarkaath[6], Sithicus[7], and Verbrek[8] Several of the wolves are said to be monstrously large in size[9]; [[Spec|this is likely a reference to dire wolves.}}
