A Defiler Lich, also known as a kaisharga, is a lich native to Athas who found its way to the Demiplane of Dread.
Defiler Liches have the same repertoire of magic that a typical lich has access to, and require a phylactery to house their spirit. However, like all defilers, and unlike typical spellcasters, the Defiler Lich draws its magical power from the living essence of the land, which lays waste to the surrounding flora and fauna, reducing the most of the former to ash and causing suffering and death to the latter. It goes without saying that any form of sentient plant life such as Evil Treants and even Undead Treants loathe the Defiler Lich above all else. The Defiler Lich also has powerful psionic capabilities, and if that weren't enough, their exceptional hand-to-hand melee combat skills are also another danger.
As was the case in their original homeworld of Athas, the source of their incredible magical power is also their greatest weakness -- but for a completely different reason. Athas was laid waste by their brand of magic, and it would seem at a glance that Ravenloft an untapped, endless resource just waiting to be taken. Unfortunately for the defiler, every Darklord is intimately tied to their domain and the usage of such magic would immediately be detected by the master of that land. Defiler Liches have been reported to be chased from the Core worlds of Falkovnia and Barovia and some of these creatures could have possibly taken up residence with the illithid in Bluetspur.
Demilich status
The demilich phase of the Defiler Lich's existence is much the same as its other brethren, but it is able to afflict a curse of entropy on anyone who disturbs its remains.
