Category talk:NPC
So I'm thinking the category should be NPC, not Npc. Anyone have an idea of how to easily move the >1500 entries in Npc to NPC? I might have to write a perl script. -- Gonzoron 01:05, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
Couldn't we just move these two over there, and then use the "move" button to move them all? DeepShadow 01:09, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
That was my first thought, but sadly, there's no move button for categories.. :( -- Gonzoron 02:13, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
In that case...maybe we'll have an editing competition? DeepShadow 02:34, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
Ahh... found an easy way. I need to install an extension, but once I do, Admins will be able to run a global search-and-replace on the entire wiki, so I can replace category:Npc with category:NPC. Should be useful to have around for other reasons too.. I'll get to it soon. -- Gonzoron 16:22, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
Oh, THAT will be nice. I might have to put in some requests for global S&R after you do that. DeepShadow 17:30, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
Done. Feel free to let me know of any requests... -- Admin 00:30, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
When is an NPC not an NPC?
What if someone wants to include a page on their PC? Or alternatively, how do we document the sample PCs from the RGPA adventures? Should we change NPC to Character? Or have another category for PCs? And/or include Category:NPC and Category:PC in Category:Character? -- Gonzoron 14:32, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
I was about to start doing this for Kara's Daughters, and I was prepared to put them under NPC's, because I was offering them as NPC's for other campaigns. DeepShadow 14:57, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps a good reason to switch them all to Character. You never know who someone might want to use as a PC or NPC. (I had a player take on a pre-madness Emil Bollenbach as a temporary PC once.) -- Gonzoron 17:00, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
- Anyone object to a global search and replace of NPC-->Character? -- Gonzoron 13:33, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- No argument here. DeepShadow 03:36, 17 December 2011 (MST)
- OK, done. But I actually went a step further and made NPC and PC subcategories under Character. We'll see how that goes. -- Admin 20:54, 18 December 2011 (MST)

Gender categories?
Is there any value in labeling all NPCs with [[Category:Male]], [[Category:Female]], or [[Category:Genderless]]? Or is it just busywork? -- Gonzoron 13:35, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- I say it's a good idea. There are situations where you look for someone of a particular gender, such as when you were designing your vorlog, or when I'm looking for potential Kara's Daughters recruits.DeepShadow 03:37, 17 December 2011 (MST)
- OK, well, everyone feel free to add them in as you please. Kinda hard to do it systematically. :) -- Admin 20:54, 18 December 2011 (MST)
broken link
The "next 200" link from this page no longer works, it only goes back to the top. I'd fix it myself i knew my way around wiki edits better.
- thanks for the head's up. It's not something you're going to be able to fix through the wiki itself. Those links are automatically generated by the software. Looks like something broke during the recent software update. I've got an email in to the mediawiki gurus. Hopefully they can tell me how to fix it. -- Gonzoron 14:13, 6 December 2011 (MST)
- Well, that took longer than expected. I had to ask in a lot of places, and had been resigned to digging into the code myself, but finally got an answer (that it would have taken me years to figure out on my own). And now it works. Huzzah! (In case anyone's wondering, I had to upgrade the CategoryTree extension to the latest version. The older version was interfering with the new category paging system in the new version of Mediawiki. -- Gonzoron 14:43, 26 December 2011 (MST)
