Just Outsider or Fiend also? Also add Fire, Evil and Lawful?

I suppose fiend. Maybe devil? I've been avoiding alignment descriptors since I can't think of a good way to differentiate between the descriptors and the alignments themselves. I wouldn't object to Fire. -- Gonzoron 20:08, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

They aren't listed under Devil in the SRD, so I didn't put it down. They don't have relative wrinkles or phylacteries,if that is any help.Cure 20:11, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Good point re: devil. I agree, no devil. But how do we know they don't have RWs or phylacteries? They have the Evil descriptor and not the Mists descriptor. Therefore they should have RWs. I'm not sure what the criteria for Phylacteries are. Can someone check RCS or RLPH? (mine are packed) -- Gonzoron 20:49, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Let me change that to, I would be very surprised if they had phylacteries and likewise reality wrinkles. I keep wanting to think that it is either reality wrinkle or mist descriptor. But I believe that nightmares are one of the counterexamples to this line of thought. In brief, I have never understood this completely, or fully, or correctly, and would love if someone could treat it exhaustively.Cure 11:54, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Well, according to the FAQ and many annoyed posts from Mangrum and "Azalin," the criteria for RWs is very clear: "“An outsider receives a reality wrinkle if it has either the Good or the Evil descriptor and it does not have the Mists descriptor. An outsider loses its reality wrinkle if it "maxes out" its Corruption points (22+) or binds itself to a mortal (as in the case of outsider familiars)." I'd have to check RCS or RLPH to see if Phylacteries and RWs are linked. -- Gonzoron 16:27, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

PS - (And considering Mangrum's last post on the subject: '"Clarify reality wrinkles again" is on my to-do list right after "Hammer rusty nails into eye sockets."' I doubt we'll get any more of an exhaustive answer than that. -- Gonzoron 16:30, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Perhaps my suspicion that Mangrum was the answers behind "Azalin"'s throne has been disproved. A dread nightmare has the Evil descriptor, does not have the Mist descriptior, and does not have reality wrinkles:

Form the Errata: "Descriptors correct as presented. The sentence "Though dread nightmares are in some ways more powerful than their infernal kin, the Mists have bound them to earth." is intended to imply that over the course of generations, these creatures have lost their wrinkles. They do not have reality wrinkles (precision given by Azalin)" [Errata]

Now on a related and practical point, where is a Hell Hound or a Dread Night for that matter to put its phylactery? Do hounds hounds come into existence in Ravenloft with dog collars and nightmares with horseshoes? Granted, hell hounds might be intelligent enough to bury a phlactery and a nightmare would be intelligent enough to do likewise. Still, phlacteries are tool-like and so fit together better with tool using creatures. Seeking out and digging up hell hound phlacteries does have a certain appeal I will admit however. . . .Cure 19:17, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
