How is Category:Castle being defined over and against Category:Fortress, and do we need both?

based on wiktionary, it seems all castles are fortresses, but not all fortresses are castles. Don't really know if we need both, though. Can't think of any non-castle fortresses in RL offhand. I'm ok with just using castle. -- Gonzoron 01:59, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

The low-proflie, star shaped fortications that Vauban (I think) conceived for the French to withstand canons are fortresses or at very least are fortifications but are not castles. Fortress is indeed a wider notion. But I cannot think of a case where the difference yields fruit in Ravenloft and I have no appetite to go add castle to every entry that currently is described as a fortress. I did toy with adding stronghold. But concluded that it caught very little that fortress didn't. But if we go with castle and merge fortress into, I think stronghold becomes necessary, as a well guild military garrison isn't a castle, but it might be loosely called a fotrtress, and it would certainly be a stronghold. For simplicities' sake I would say that castle is not worth the bother. But if castle it is, we need a search replace for fortress to castle, then a weeding of the non castles, and then the addition of sttronghold. And while one is at it, every castle is a Category:Fortification, so that can be added too.Cure 07:26, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
