Also referred to as echoes or shells, the lost are strange, shapechanging aberrations composed of force that can create temporary tools, clothing or other substance using the substance of the Mists. The lost can also alter their appearances, even to resemble individuals known by those they encounter, though the lost usually eschew shapechanging in front of mortals. The lost are intelligent and social, able to cooperate with one another as well as interact and communicate with other creatures through both physical and telepathic means. However, the ultimate goals of these enigmatic beings remain mysterious. The lost are not know to eat, sleep, or breathe as normal living creatures do^[1].

The Lost dwell within the Mists^[2] and are also known to exist within the Dance and the Quickening^[3].
