When Captain Alain Monette transformed himself into a bat by feasting upon them, some of the bats were changed as well. These bats gained the ability to assume the form of child-size bat/humanoid hybrid forms, though mostly harmless to humans and quick to flee. However, they obey the captain's commands, and they can sabotage and filch intruder supplies, shelters, and boats.[1]
