Plains cats are large, black, tailless predatory felines native to Nova Vaasa. Plains cats are nocturnal hunters that hunt large animals in prides or hunt smaller prey solitarily. They typically live in crevices and other sheltered spots in Nova Vaasa's many rocky outcroppings^[1][2].

Plains cats are immune to the paralytic poison secreted by the spines of the catspaw cactus. Consequently, patches of catspaw are frequented by the wilier members of the species.
