A Night Terror tattoo is the creation of the Illuminated Man. They serve to give a person a bonus on Fear Saves and Horror Saves related to that person's deepest held fear at the cost of a hit point. When a person tattooed with a night terror perishes, any night terrors become unbound and begin haunting the dreams of those nearby, turning them into nightmares. Note that night terror tattoos were never updated to 3rd Edition, hence any creature types below are speculative.
