A focus medium bridges the communication gap between the living and the dead by temporally inducing the spirit of a departed individual into an item or substance that has been specially prepared to be susceptible to its manipulation. The answers to questions put to the spirit can then be read in its manipulation of the item or substance. this could be in the unnatural turning of of a compass need or in the percular dancing of flames for example.
