Paper may be too expensive or otherwise unavailable to come by for scribing scrolls in CL 2 or CL 3 domains, so sometimes clay tablets are used instead.^[1]

Conceptual Problem

Considering the price of scrolls as magic items, the use of clay tablets over paper does not seem to make much sense, leading one to wonder why clay tablets would be used at all given any availability of paper.
