Blaphemes are corporeal undead crafted by demented wizards of long ago using methods lost to the past, or at least currently buried. Ancient composites of various corpses, blasphemes nonetheless remain in superb condition and are actually quite agile. These malevolent and sentient (albeit barely so) monstrosities constantly hunger for the Strength of the living. Blasphemes fulfill this hunger with their bites, which inflict Strength ability damage and produce an irresistible dazing effect.[1]
Although knowledge of creating blasphemes has largely been lost, the power to create blapshemes may exist in some form or fashion hidden from most eyes. The Liber Blaspheme was an unholy tome with such knowledge, and a a fragment of the Liber Blaspheme still has such knowledge. In one version of Barovia on the Prime Material Plane, the corrupted priest Danovich used it to bring back his dead son Doru from the dead. However, he seems not to have intended to bring back his son as a blaspheme.[2]

The thing suddenly appeared from a door in the lich’s ruined lair, grinning wildly and babbling insanely. At first we thought it was a mad construct, but its supernatural undead nature was found later by our researches. It rushed at me, hissing and showing off its mean looking black teeth. I figured I was lost, since the shoulder-belt of my crossbow was entangled with that of my backpack and I could not prepare myself for this blasphemous horror. When it ran toward me I saw its immense hate in its eyes, and its hunger too... But suddenly it erratically changed its course to attack Viktor, our anchorite. By chance, Viktor was ready to receive the charge with his spear. This gave us time to hack at the thing until all its parts hideously fell apart…
