Bushtail[1] is a minor character from the Ravenloft product line novel Dance of the Dead (Novel). He is a fox loa, though he is of Richemuloise origin. As a fox loa, Bushtail is of intelligent and can speak. He is immense size (that of a calf) relative to his mundane kin. Bushtail has great, even perhaps supernatural, speed, an ability that Captain Raoul Dumont was able to exploit for his boat, La Demoiselle du Musarde.
In Dance of the Dead
Before the start of the book, Bushtail was captured by Dumont's crew in Richemulot, and Bushtail became a slave along with a number of other magical creatures. While the ship was in Souragne, a rabbit loa named Bouki was captured and also brought aboard Le Demoiselle. Although initially adversarial, Bushtail and Bouki eventually became good friends in their captivity. They were later liberated by Larissa Snowmane and Gelaar Redtree. Bushtail agreed to stay on the newly renamed River Dancer until it was able to get back to Richemulot. As a parting gift to Bouki, he foreswore his fox worshippers from eating rabbits for a fortnight - although he cheekily reminded Larissa that there was always other prey for his children to eat, such as chickens.
Trivia
Bushtail is an adept singer; his voice is a strong baritone.
