Praesidius Alexei Raskolka dies of a mysterious wasting disease and is succeeded by his adviser, Praesidius Levin Postoya.[11] By this year, the Celestines have star-maps for the entire Core. They also discover that they could relate celestial events to earthly events and use the former to predict the latter.[12]
Alanik Ray investigates an old cold case, and discovers the influence of the Red Haunt behind a series of murders committed by prostitutes in Dementlieu. He is not aware that these were in fact hunting lessons for the fiend's daughter, Clementine.
