Alcoholics are addicted to alcohol which is, strictly speaking, a poison. At least a degree of intoxication is, ideally, a nigh permanent state with them. They enjoy a capacity to cope with their intoxication which less practiced drinkers do not usually share. Consequently, their intoxication is often not, at least in the short term, incapacitating. Their intoxication or drunkenness, but not their addiction, may be ended with a neutralize poison spell.
