Alcoholics are addicted to alcohol which is, strictly speaking, a poison. At least a measure of inebriation is for at least some of them an ideal state. They enjoy a capacity to cope with both significant quantities of alcohol and their inebriation that less practiced drinkers do not usually share. Consequently, inebriation is often not, at least in the short term, incapacitating or even by itself impairing. Nonetheless, the addiction itself is an impairment. Inebriation, not addiction, may be ended with a neutralize poison spell.
