Renaissance & Enlightenment Armour

During the Renaissance, armour was extensively used by knights, but as firearms became main battlefield weapons, and the ages gave way to the age of enlightenment, armour became less and less common.

Additionally, in Ravenloft you have outcast penalties if you are inappropriately attired.

Renaissance Armour

Renaissance armour is well varied, a culmination of many centuries of protective development. Chainmail was going out of fashion in favour of plate, and armour was often composed of a number of different types of armour, for example, plate arms and legs, with a brigadine chest piece over a doublet might compose a guard's armour.

Below is a pictoral guide of armour that is common in a Renaissance Setting (includes entries for existing and new armour).

Enlightenment Armour for Ladies

The current campaign I'm running at the moment is all female, a small group of four girls. Fantasy role-playing in an Enlightenment period does not historically cater for female body armour. However, into my campaign I have introduced bodices and corsets made of armoured materials, and have a common appearance, thus providing no outcast penalties in renaissance and enlightenment culture levels.
