Gothic Earth: Now

Post by Drinnik Shoehorn »

I'm planning on starting a new game based on Gothic Earth but set in the modern day. It will revolve around the fact that on the stroke of midnight on December 31st 1899 the Red Death was captured and trapped inside a statue in the USA using a ritual that comprised symbols, methods and artifacts from many different religions.

For 105 years the Red Death remained trapped, allowing the Gods of Gothic Earth to return during the 20th Century. But the minions of the Red Death have not been idle, they have discovered a way to release their master from its prison. It will be up to a Catholic Priest (my PC) and who ever he can gather to try and stop the Red Death's minions from releasing the terror for a second time.

If you are interested, PM me with a character idea. I'll also ask the Frat if we can loosen the language restritctions slightly, as the game is set in modern day and we can't really expect everyone to "dang" and "poot" their way around the world.

Interesting. Would we have to actually know anything about MotRD to join?

Not much. The feel of the game will be aiming to be like movies such as the Prophesy, Stigmata, It, Ring. Decent modern horror.

What rules system would you be using (if it is in the present does that mean d20 Modern?)

Edit: I know this is play by posting but some still like to make their characters using a rules system to help decide what their character can 'do'.

I'm interested too, especially if we shouldn't know very much about the Gothic Earth. I have only played the normal D&D.

It'll be standard Masque rules, but the setting will be in the modern day, so it'll be Mystics and Adepts, criminals and soldiers, etc.

With automatic weapons and computers? Hmm bit of a change there. Sure it can be pulled off though just add some new knowledge skills and treat guns as having more bullets per reload.

Any restrictions on character creation? such as how many levels we can take and so on? I'm thinking that since this is modern day, some form of low standing member in a Wiccan Qabal might be a good choice for me ;)

At first, if people want to come from different cities, even different countries, that's great. Father Lymon has to travel to find the people who God has decreed will help him. And I've got a cool encounter for on a plane in mind, so if you want to come from the States, then cool.

I'd prefare it if PC's where as mixed as possible, and put a limit of 5 levels on, it seems the midway level between actual hero and reluctant hero.

The currency of the country we're in at the time. So now, as its in Britian, it's pounds, if we go to the continent, it'd be Euros, if we go to the states, it's Dollars, etc.
