And although I have nothing against the dark elf and his friends, and adore cats, the story of them facing out and losing to Harkon Lukas was very entertaining and insightful.
Thanks!!! :) Definitely has some spelling/grammer errors and needs a lot of fleshing out that I was not fully comfortable doing such without some further resources! (As I wrote not my best work!!!) Still I threw it together without my R.A. Sal book collection to reference and it took a good while to do and some effort just for that much from memory, but it was much less than I have put into other projects.

Still I don't have anything against them either, but I just wanted to share how I think it could have played out for them, and also what I thought the poster of the thread wanted to see... He wanted them dead in a fitting fashion, and with enough suffering and drama to show how they would react to it. For the most part while it destroyed their hopes, emotions, friendship and even their minds in Wulfgars case, the others remained heroes for the most part. Still Jack the Reaper did demand a scenario leading to death and I figure they earned the right to be set up by a Darklord in the finale. Harkon just fit the bill so well for what was needed and he charmed his way to the front of the line for the honor of giving them a more memorable send off.

Of course if you want a good challenge or even idea I would recommend using the characters from the Cleric Quintet by R.A Salvator. They have some experience with horrible undead, and terrifying/twisted situations. Heck I have often thought the villian, I believe he called himself Ghost, with his evil body swapping magic gloves, and the way he was done should have ended up in Ravenloft. In fact almost from the way it happened seemed like at least his soul did if not for being supposedly destroyed after dragging them into a nightmare battle scenario. I need to re read that though before I even think of taking on that crew in the Dread Realms!!!

She goes through a LOT of hard times and I don't recall her Mary Sue-ing her way out of trouble the way Elminster is prone to do. Granted it's been about 10 years since I read those books but I think it still holds. I do recall she gets beaten, kicked around, burned, spellblasted, and all sorts of other things before she actually calls out her spellfire.

You're right about it; I mentioned it because I really disliked the way she burns one powerful dracolich after another, as the supposed-to-be-genius wyrms just don't seem to figure out that their breath weapon only makes her more powerful. Come on, how morons could dracoliches be (even if they live in the Realms...)?

Also there were other things in her novels that I didn't like, and I found them in overall childish and boring.

The 3E books exclude purely defensive Necromancy spells (e.g. Death Ward) from Powers checks. Non-harmful utility spells like Speak With Dead can still get you spanked.
