Re: The Nightingale - OOC
If you don't see your dude making scrolls much (or are willing to wait till higher level to make scrolls by taking the feat)-
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/class ... ererWizard
If you combine that with battle sorc and a high CHA, you have a fairly good 'multiclass' go without waiting to switch classes.
The warmage is also a good choice, but only if you are willing to heavily concentrate on battle magic.

Delight is to him- a far, far upward, and inward delight- who against the proud gods and commodores of this earth, ever stands forth his own inexorable self.

Re: The Nightingale - OOC
Ah, thanks, Ewan.
I was about to suggest the *warmage* (I think that would be Dragonlance, originally) myself.
I also think in 3.5's PHB II or III, there was a pretty straightforward magic-user/fighter class called "The Duskblade" or something,
that might be interesting for you to check out.
Since Z. is a beginner, IIRC, I suggest a simple character.
This is a horror game, and thus, character development is more limited than in normal D&D games.
So, don't get lost in the richness that D&D offers. Play something that you understand, and feel comfortable with.
To experiment with new character classes, this game is not the place.
Too many options will not serve you in this game, and too much preparation might not warrant the reward.
But, hey, I don't have to make the rolls, so, feel free to do what you want. Just don't say I didn't warn you.

Re: The Nightingale - OOC
Heh, i'm new to ravenloft having only DM'd it and rarely. I've been a player/DM for about 2 1/2 years.
Duskblade btw I consider to be Over powered past level 5....
For example this is a possible turn.... combined with Shocking grasp, and kelgor's firebolt.
Channel = standard action
(make an attack to hit and you do normal damage plus spell damage)
oh look shocking grasp doesn't have a saving throw. oh look it does it's spell caster level in damage. <.< that's.... 1d8 (longsword) + S (strength) + 5d6 (shocking grasp)
Wait! I have a free action!
5 Foot step back
wait! I use my quicken spell for the day and cast.... kelgor's firebolt! another 5d6. (save for half) or i could use another shocking grasp.
>.> their damage output can be ridiculous. The weakness comes from lower hp than a tank, and if they enter in many battles throughout the day and didn't hold back any channeling spells they will be less effective at the "boss". (btw the average of that attack around above is about 34 or above depending if you use 3 as the "average" of d6 or 3.5)
Anyways enough mechanics. Heh if you want to keep it simple I can play it simple and go fighter. Defiantly new to kid on the block for ravenloft though. Ah hell I'll play a cleric.
Ammanas Nom
I'll hopefully make him later tomorrow

Don't worry too much about level 5. Worry if your character lives to see level 3.

Alright so I'll be a cleric of the eternal order, repose/death domain since those are the available domains for it.

Probably one thing, though: This is a ridiculously deadly adventure. You make one false step, you die.
So, keep the mood, and keep the brains.
