Galandel watches the window, no doubt this is how those humans entered the back of the house unseen. He waits and watches for a few minutes, he isn't sure if the candle light or lamp light is a person coming to check out the opened door or if it just a lit hallway. Using the empathic link that connects him and Baelmus he sends a sense of urgency across to bring his wolf companion to him.

If it turns out just to be a lit hallway, Galandel will go back into the house through the back door with Baelmus following behind him. He stalks through the rooms silently looking for Benn and the others.

Baelmus comes round from the front.

The light, as Galandel soon discovers, is just a candle carried by one of Sancerre's serving-men. The servant pokes about the storeroom for a bit, and then closes the window. He then departs.

Once Galandel has found Benn and the others, walking over to his wife he stops beside her. Crouching on the ball of his heels he pets Baelmus.

He crouches there silently listening for the next course of action.

Galandel finds that the others are all in the parlor ( except Dofur- he's smoking on the porch) with several gendarmes. There's talk of a raid...

"Raid?" Galandel says from behind everyone. "That is good idea but I am sure who ever sent those humans will be expecting such. If the cowards haven't already ran, then they plan to or are setting a trap..." he finishes.

Peering past all the guards on his heels he notices Dorgio and Jon. Noticing Dorgio's foot and the missing toe he suppresses a small smile "You can catch the chill or a fever if you don't get those boots mended or buy new ones. Oh nice to see you again, I found your.. office? Yes that is what the man called it.. You servant there, I think I scared the wits out him. He was nice enough to give me directions to Denys house though. "

Dorgio notices that Galandel looks different from when he last saw him. His face is still expressionless as ever but his eyes are filled sadness and pain, more so when he looks at the female elf in the parlor, and he is tip of one his ears is missing.

Several of the gendarmes yank out weapons and spin to face the elf and his wolf. They don't look pleased to see Galandel or Baelmus.

Galandel tilts his head as he examines the human guards, then gives them a nod and continues to look past them while petting Baelmus.

Denys leaves to escort Evangeline to her room.

One of the guards says to Galandel-

''A wolf, maybe we should kill it? Bet he doesn't have a beast-handler's license.''

Another man replies-

''Right. Hey, skinny, show me the papers for that wolf.''

Galandel stands and moves to the side to allow more space for Denys and his daughter to pass. Offering them a small smile he says "Rest well."

Once they pass he moves his cloak to the side uncovering his quiver and crouches back down on the ball of heels. His bow resting lightly in one hand, he adjusts his sword belt and moves the hand axe he acquired when rescuing his people for a more comfortable, and easier access to them, crouching position.

He turns his head towards the humans, gives them a sickly grin.

"Shouldn't you humans be guarding the house? I don't think Denys would be happy if the other humans were to come back to an undefended house and take him and his daughter." he tells while keeping the grin up afterwords.

''Pay up or we'll have to put down your beast. As for the rest, we don't take orders from freaks like you.''

Galandel sighs and shakes his head mumbles something in sithician about humans resorting always restoring to violence and being untrustworthy.

"No." he says flatly "I don't believe you are trustworthy to take some of what little coin I have. Unless you can provide proof that you can produce this.. Beast-Handler licenses?" he says arching an eye brow as if he unsure what that means exactly. "I will be happy to pay but if you can not then I will not give you any coin. I will however promise that I will seek out an office which will be able to provide this license at first light." he finishes.

He pauses for a moment and looks at the humans up and down, deciding which he may have to kill first. Twice already they have offended him and he has let pass because he doesn't want to causes problems for his friends and Denys.

"This is reasonable me thinks, and I have walked through the town with Baelmus before with out any guard bringing up this licenses." he says as he stands up slowly and smiles at them.

Galandel is poised for an attack, through the link he shares with Baelmus, he sends wave of urgency to prepare for an attack. He himself is ready to step back and fire at the guards if they choose not to provide proof or accept his most reasonable terms.

Baelmus growls at the men, ears flat against his head.

The apparent leader of the greencoats says-

''We can write it up for you now. You don't have to wait. It's a simple thing, and good for one year. Pay us ten gold or we will have to confiscate the beast. If it attacks us, we'll kill it. If you attack us, we'll arrest you and cart you off to the city gaol. "

The six human watchmen are looking over both you and your wolf. Their faces are hard and unfriendly.

They all have hands on their sword hilts.

Galandel smiles and then laughs. After his fit of laughter is over, he eyes each of the guardsmen up and down, smiling the whole time. It isn't clear whether he finds them threatening or if he just some mad savage elf.

"You should have said as much in the first place. I would have hated to put six good men in their graves for no reason other then they failed to go about something right way. Well write out your license then and I will pay." he tells the leader as he leans on his bow.

Looking down at Baelmus he simply shakes his head while smiling at his old friend.

The gendarme captain smiles at you, a gold tooth glinting among his tobacco stained teeth.

''That's another five gold pieces fine for threatening agents of the law and offering resistance to the administration of city ordinances. Sorry, but we cannot make exceptions. As you say- we should be careful to, ah, ' go about things the right way.' "

He suddenly looks very serious.

His men tense up just a bit more, swords sliding loose from scabbards inch by inch.

Galandel continues to smile as the guards loose their swords inch by inch. Turning his attention back towards the captain his smiles fade his becomes expressionless. The hard stare he gives the captain makes him seem like he is trying to bore a hole through the mans head with his stare alone.

"I don't recall threatening you, I never make threats. I only point out simple facts, as for offering resistance what did you expect when you spoke to you like you did? Had you be honest and more caring with your words before I hand I would have paid then. Instead you drag this out and throw more things at me. I have already told you no guard has mentioned this license before and I have walked the streets with Baelmus already. " he tells them human.

"Now I will pay you the ten gold but not a copper penny more. "

Galandel is still "relaxed" but he knows his reflexes are faster then the humans and at moments notice he will move back and fire if others fully unsheathe their swords and step towards him.

''This is ridiculous. You have been insulting, arrogant, and you've joked about 'putting six good men in their graves.' I've had about enough from you.''

The captain steps back and draws his sword.

''Arrest him. Kill the wolf if it tries to bite."

The men move to obey his orders...
