mistshadow2k4, I similarly only found two books in VRGttSF, outside of an off-hand mention of the Raiment of Clarity that I didn't find worth adding.

Van Richten's Guide to the Shadow Fey

--- Malleus Umbricum by Wyan of Viktal - "Hammer of Shades", text on fey creatures (p6)
--- Marcusen Manuscript - Court record, describing Seelie and Unseelie courts (p71)

Yeah, I figured I missed a few as I was moslty skimming them. I hope someone who knows how to use spreadsheet software will make a spreadsheet of all this. I'm sure some DM may find it useful.

That's cool, I'm also just skimming through the books. As most of the titles are in italics in the books, it's easy to pick 'em out. All others can be caught by also being aware of any proper names that pop up in the text.

Van Richten's Arsenal Volume I

--- Sight Unseen: The Theory of Ethereal Resonance by Barclay - p45
--- Transpossession: A Guide to Phenomena by Archmage Jacktin Tellurian - p46
--- Scrying and the Nature of Visions by Professor Agrippa - p46
--- Third Book of Ezra - Originally referenced in GazIII, here on p49
--- Ancient Tales of the Vistani* by Ayre - p54

*** Ancient Tales of the Vistani - VRA lists the author as being unknown. However, in the source novel "Castle of the Undead" (a Ravenloft "Choose Your Own Adventure" book from which the prophecy quoted in VRA comes from, along with the idea of the Bloodknife and the vampire Velkaarn) , the ghostly librarian Ayre claims to have penned a book called Legends of the Vistani, as reported by The Giamarga in the thread The Bloodknife. The book names seem too similar, so it seems fair to assume the two books are one-and-the-same and thus attribute the book to Ayre.

Denizens of Dread

None.

Heroes of Light

--- Second Book of Ezra - Revelation of Ezra to Felix Wachter (one line quote, p52)

I'm going to be gone for a few days, so if anyone else wants to do a book or two, feel free. Otherwise, I'll likely come back to the others later.

Legacy of the Blood

--- Tome of Strahd - Autobiography of Strahd von Zarovich (p128)

----------------------------

I really wished there would be a book, like The Analytical Method: Treatise on Mental Health, or something like that, just something that could appear on a shelf that refers to Mousel's analytical method... Or a similar thing from Germain D'Honaire...

Tomorrow I'll work to change all the entries around so that, instead of giving listings book-to-book, it'll just give a huge list of entries followed by what books it's mentioned in, as I realize the previous format is nearly unusable.

If someone wanted to do something with the above, making it into a spreadsheet or whatever, go for it. My part ends here, as I'm content with this as it is.

I'm half-tempted to go through some 2nd Ed stuff and add those to the list, but I'm assuming that Mangrum's list earlier has pretty much everything. Note that his stuff is *not* included on my list above, but I can merge it in if requested and remove all of the real-world references from the above references.

Great job, Cyclohexane, et al.. But your permanent link isn't so permanent, since the boards get purged on a semi-regular basis. I think the list should go somewhere else. FoS members? got a spot for it?

(it occurs to me that this really ought to go in the catalog. any chance of getting it back open for editting so industrious folk like Cyclohexane can put stuff in? as mentioned before, I'm willing and most likely able to set up the dbman software...)

Also, I'm willing to go through the Quoteth the Raven and whatnot as well, if desired.

And note that, unlike Mangrum's list, I left out any personal diaries/journals that were mentioned; I can go back and find those if desired, but I felt it only worth it to grab actual books, plays, etc that could be found on multiple people's shelves. (That said, I do like the Mangrum's is set to be able to see everything that's on Van Richten's shelf, so I'm not knocking the previous list at all).

Holy crud, just found one of the references above:
--- de Penible, Francois. The Forgotten Sensations - Dementlieuse book (Gaz3 p23)
"Francois de Penible" was Stuart Turner's submission to CotN: Demons, a man in the process of being transpossessed by a Kyton (chain devil)... I'd wondered what that book was going to be about, and now I have a decent assumption. :)
