Even though it isn't inherently *scary,* Poe's story where the protagonist kills his wife then walls her body up with their live cat (accidentally) freaked me. I don't know exactly why, but it did.
Also, The Exorcist (the book) was pretty bad...
Personally, I thought Dracula wasn't so much scary, as intriguing. As someone mentioned, though, it did have its moments...

I've read many books that scared me, but the one that frightened the @#&* out of me was Stephen King's The Stand (Complete and Uncut). Just because I was reading it in real life about the same time that Captain Tripps was spreading in the book. And I got a BAD summer cold that week. <shudders> In my semi-lucid and feverish state of mind I thought I had inadvertently ended the world through my reading of the book. That scared me badly enough that I didn't finish the book for a year.
