Mists over the Musarde, Chapter Seven
"If papa could see me now, what a thrashing I'd be getting," Benn mutters, dropping to a knee beside the wolf. "Shhh, it's ok, we'll be helping your master soon."
If the creature will allow him, Benn reaches forward tentatively and rests a hand on it, transferring some healing energy into Baelmus and hopefully easing some of the pain. He also calls up the words to a light spell, though he knows with certainty that it will only make him more visible and helpless to the creatures that doubtless hide in the woods.

"Of course," Benn mutters, "It would be a damned shame if we ever knew what the hell was actually going on."

among the rock formations of the south bank
Baelmus doesn't snap at Benn, but allows the human to use his healing touch. The wolf's injured leg twists, an action accompanied by an audible popping sound. Now, the injury doesn't look quite so bad, and Baelmus is no longer growling.
Benn casts his spell of illumination. The gloom dissipates, but the magic light creates new shadows, grotesque shapes that madly lurch and dance through the sandstone labyrinth every time Benn moves the light source- and perhaps even when he is still.
Looking all about, Benn spots a booted leg protruding from behind a very large boulder. The foot twitches slightly, like a worm on a hook, and then draws back behind a rock and out of view. It looked like it might have been the elf's leg.

Franz is worried about what he is now positive he heard. "Dorgio. I neet to get up top unt fast so I kannen go unt investigate the howls unt noises. I am sure you, viss Karim can get Jon up above."
Looking up he calls up to whomever is holding the rope. "Pull me up as I climb up, I am comink now." With that, the Fakovnian begins climbing up the cliff.
Once up top, he will get the rest of his gear, including his chain shirt and shield, then move towards the howls and noises he heard earlier.

"Right, Franz. Jon, be helping me keep an eye out, then you'll be next. I'll be covering us." He continues to stare into the darkness, "Lord of the Dawn," he intones, "Be watching our back."*

The rain continues to pour down from a purple-black overcast sky, extinguishing the last of the party's hissing torches. The sun, riding low in the West, is only a bloody smear of red, lost in the haze of the distant border-mists.

Jon is able to comply with directions.
After a bit of work, and with help from Karim and Dofur, Jon gets to the top of the cliff.
Now, Dorgio stands alone at the base of the cliff, waiting from the rope to be let down for him.

Wat nods in the affirmative, and then takes up a position at Alain's back, facing out into the rainstorm with a silver dagger clutched tightly in his right fist.

"I don't know, I was looking down to you guys. Ben is gone to investigate, better call him. Isn't good leave him alone. I will help the others climbing and then will join you. When you find Ben tell at me in what direction to go."
When Jon gets to the cliff Karim tosses the rope back down to Dorgio and asks Jon:
"Are you ok Jon? If you think you can fight maybe you can join Franz and try to find Ben and Galandel."

Bennedict mutters a prayer of Sanctuary, noting to himself that, if he were a wolf-demon, this is exactly how he would lure a stupid Lamordian book dealer who is in way over his head into a trap.
He then creeps forward, slowly, around the rock.

Dorgio braces the butt of his spear against the cliffside to keep it from shaking as he waits for the rope to be lifted. Once the rope is lowered, he breathes a sigh of relief and starts the climb back up.
He nods in thanks to Karim, Dofur, and Alain as he reaches the top, then looks around, noting those not present.
"What are we knowing?"

in the rock maze
Benn rounds the corner of the big boulder. He spots an empty boot on the ground, along with a few scraps of cloth.
GRRRRRRRRR...
Baelmus growls and flattens his ears. The animal creeps toward the empty boot, sniffs it, and then begins to whine.
''Uhhhhhhhhh...''
A soft moan may be heard from what is now Benn's back.
Baelmus quickly scampers about to face whatever potential danger lurks behind...
