Well, I get most from existing ravenloft sources:

If the NPC exists, I pick a portrait of them.

If not, I choose a character I will never ever use and use them in place of my own (Estevan from CoD became Raphael Vettighetto, annoying, foppish, and womanizing Borcan Artist.)

Or I use a character that's not really a character, sometimes with a little photoshopping. (The Alchemical Philosopher from VRA bacame Lord-Governor Guignol (who to my knowledge has never been pictured). The Pistoleer from the same book became Marie Delacourte. The shirtless Caliban from the RCS became Caliban Gunsmith Hughes Maigney from the RLDMG (with the photoshop addition of the suitcoat from the RCS male Dwarf) The huddled Caliban in the RCS bacame Shrotte, a Falkovnian refugee. One of the ghosts from CotN:G became Marcos Veddarak. (I've become quite adept at adding Falkovnian forehead brands))

If all else fails, I turn to www.elfwood.com, a searchable site of fantasy art galleries. (I try to avoid this since several of the artists forbid republishing of their work, and I like to include the pics on my website whenever possible. But I did find a good replacement pic for Akriel here.)

If that doesn't work, there's always a google image search. I found a few beauties that way (Councilor Jean-Jacques Moreau is a fop from some famous painting. Councilor Josephine Chantreux is from some mediavl engraving.)
"We're realistic heroes. We're not here to save the world, just nudge the world into a better place."

Finding pics is a fabulous idea, and google will be the way to go. And I like the idea of the feyr. I'll combine all of this with what I've been suggested in another forum, and I'll give you guys a feedback on how it went. I have a good feeling about this adventure.

Wow, its as if this whole internet fan-group ressource thingny is really working out. =P
Just kidding

This website as a very good resource for gothic-ish looking portraits on the fly (depending on your setting/domain, that is). I use it for portraits, collages, character ideas and the like:
The Daguerreian Society

You have to dig around a bit to find the good ones, but there are quite flavorful and useful ones: The Chemist, The Lord of the Manor, The Lady of the Manor, or even a requisite Creepy Doll.

That's a very cool site. ArtEChoke. I'll make sure it is soon in the links of the link page. The doll is great :)

The discussed topic reminds me of an interrogation I have: anybody has a good idea of drawing or pic for Ivana Boritsi ? The SotDR and Gaz 4 pic doesn't carry the image of innocence she is supposed to have. I'll keep this pic for when she reveals how evil she is.

Any suggestions?

Joël
