Re: Toben the Many? o.O'
I actually face this problem with my group a lot when I GM. I have one player in particular that feels the need to pillage every corpse to the point of taking trophies like body parts from non-humanoids. He has even sent the clothes of dead people back to his home city for the needy. It's truly disturbing at a minor level but I guess he's not actually taking trophy body parts from dead humanoids which would be kind of psychotic. He often chops the head off of perfectly mundane enemies because they might secretly be playing possum. And I have never used that trick in a game.Zilfer wrote:Mutliate everything they come accross...? Power's checks much? o.O' wow those are some hard asses XD.
On the other hand, a run-in with Toben might be enough to make my whole party cremate EVERY body.
Re: Toben the Many? o.O'
I'm not sure what the rules for this would be in canon powers checks. It's possible that canonical powers checks might punish violence to a dead body, but it would be completely perverse if they did so without punishing the killing of the person in the first place. ("Hey, we're totally cool with you grievously injuring and killing somebody, but the moment you start cutting up their dead body YOU'RE A BAD PERSON!!!")Zilfer wrote:Mutliate everything they come accross...? I'm using a completely different set of powers checks house rules which I drafted up with reference to violations of legal and ethical issues, using the duty owed to the victim as the base determinant of liability.
Here it is, in simple table format, if you're interested.

I was picturing paraniod people that would mutilate bodies they just came accross on the road, not necessarily killed themselves. Generally depending on the alignment of the NPC killing may require a powers check as well I believe. Been awhile since I looked at the book but I think killing Evil didn't require a check but killing someone good or neutral did. xD
I could see burning the bodies as not too bad but mutilating?
Edit: Ah yes that topic. I still find myself curious as to how Gurps works but alas that will have to wait for another time. XD Just got myself the pathfinder book to see what it was all about. xD

Ehh... I don't think trophy gathering is bad. You kill a deformed flesh golem? Good for you. Want to keep it's toe? I find it OK.Trike wrote:I actually face this problem with my group a lot when I GM. Is it really any different than collecting heads.... <--- I don't mean the kind your brain first thought of.alhoon wrote:Ehh... I don't think trophy gathering is bad. You kill a deformed flesh golem? >.> there's some pretty grim things that can happen. xD But that's what I get for reading the Malazan Books of the Fallen eh? Children of the Dead Seed alright....
Anyways, off that morbid topic and onto thinking about other ideas. One last thing on the trophy, if it was something like a wizards staff or the sword of your enemy. Maybe an amulet, i don't see the harm. Taking body parts is just cruel in my mind regardless of what they did. Burning their bodies, not so bad. Let alone hopefully that person doesn't come back to haunt you through their mutilated limbs!
Re: Toben the Many? o.O'
In my opinion, cutting off the head of a corpse one has any reason at all to suspect of rising from the grave does not merit a powers check.
Cutting off the head of a corpseout of spite would require a powers check, because it's an insult and a desecration of the corpse. And the same for any other type of needless disfigurement.
In the first scenario, if a character cut off the head of an enemy he fears might rise, I'd probably let him do so without a check, but if he decided to display that head on a spike I would definitely call for one.

I could see how you could rule it that way. (the spiked head reminds me of Vlad Drakov)

Shhh... he might hear you. Just saying his name is a Jinx! It's like he has a supernatural ability to hear his name.

Re: Toben the Many? o.O'
You're right. The one confusion people seem to have is that it turns Toben zombies into regular ones. Rather, a remove disease on a Toben zombie destroys it unless it makes a Fort save to resist. You can turn Spawn of Kyuss (another type of zombie) into regular ones like that, but not Toben ones.alhoon wrote:It does. It's in his description.

Re: Toben the Many? o.O'
That kinda makes me think about the Joker as depicted in the Dark Knight movie. He supposedly didn't really have any agenda other than to really just take apart everybody else's. Didn't plan, just proactively reacted to everybody else's plots and schemes before they could enact them. Heath Legder's version of Joker almost seems like a good fit for Toben in many ways. Just loves to see the world burn, as Alfred would say, and spread the "good word" of chaos and insanity. Might be interesting if Toben started messing with the CC's plans just to screw over the fiend in an attemp to show 'im he's planning too much agenda.Rotipher of the FoS wrote:There's a difference between having an agenda and having plans, IMO. The GC has an agenda -- an over-arching goal he's been working towards -- while Toben is just out to screw around with people for kicks. That doesn't mean he can't engineer some of those kicks to unfold over the long term; it just means he's not progressing towards any specific purpose, and if one of his endeavors is blocked, it's not actually a drawback, merely a "rats, that know-it-all elf blew the punch line..." moment.
Re: Toben the Many? o.O'
I like the idea of Toben interfering with the plans of the bigger players just for the hell of it. And Toben's nowhere near focused enough to be a player, but he would be a very difficult flea for any of them (save maybe Azalin) to effectively scratch.
