Pretty close to "The Thing" I think the newer one has a monster very close to that or it may have the actual picture itself i'm not sure. xD

Oh, I just watched the John Carpenter "The Thing" two nights ago! :)

Fantastic movie. Surprisingly good quality work, given the B-movie-style title.

The original? Oh, wow!

That guy's head just walks away! Classic scene.
The recent sequel was actually better than I was prepared for. If you haven't checked it out, bring an open mind. You might be surprised.

Cool, I'll definitely check it out when it hits the streaming services. I watched the John Carpenter movie with an open mind and was very pleasantly surprised. Lightning could strike twice, you never know.

Just remember that the "sequel" is actually a prequel and falls into various traps modern horror is prone to (gratuitous nudity, stereotyped casting, gore over horror). It's not the absolute worst horror movie out there (that dishonor goes to everything made by maverickentertainment.cc) but I'd give it half a star at most.

Another to look out for is Wonton Baby, though I don't know if the producer has finished it yet. Imagine a chubby three foot tall parasitic twin with an Elvis hairdo going on a spree; that's the gist of it and it sounds like the kind of bad movie I love.

Wait, are we watching out for it because we should see it, or so we can run in the other direction?

I'm going to say we are slightly off topic?

but i can't help but comment as well.

Yes the sequel was a "prequel", and a comment about the gore.... if you remember "The Thing" THAT was pretty gory for its time so it's not surprise they tried to increase the gore in the "prequel"

It was gory, yes. But said gore served to heighten the mood and advance the story (Kurt Russel seeing the head crawl away was what clued his character in on the hot wire test in the original). This one the gore just kills the mood by overdoing it and doesn't help the story at all.

I've yet to see the new one, but going to an art school where several students are focused on film and effects technology, I've heard a lot of ill feeling about the latter. From what I've heard, the practical effects and animatronics in the prequel were exquisite...but you'd never know it, because they tried to shine it up by painting over them with a bunch of sub-par CG.

These guys are the only ones to escape the castle alive....or they're.....well, you know how the other version ends.

The Last Ones Alive

The art is by Michael Komarck. There are some other great images for Ravenloft on his site.

Thought this would make for an excellent hook or storyline:
La Pascualita wrote: La Pascualita or Little Pascuala is a bridal mannequin that has “lived” in a store window in Chihuahua, Mexico for the past 75 years. That is quite a long time for a bridal gown shop to retain a mannequin, but then the dummy has a rather strange history behind it. According to an urban legend, La Pascualita isn’t a dummy at all, but the perfectly preserved corpse of the previous owner’s daughter.

Of course, the speculated presence of a corpse must naturally be accompanied by supernatural happenings as well. Several odd incidents have been reported around the dummy, none of which have been confirmed, of course. It is said that a love-sick French magician would arrive at night and magically bring it to life, taking her out to town. A few others believe that her gaze shifts and follows them around the store. At night, she is also believed to shift positions in the window. These tales are pretty scary, perhaps most of all to the shop workers who have to see Pascualita every single day.

She looks kind of like Kim Cattrall.
