OMG, HELLSING IS BACK!

Post by Undead Cabbage »

Hellsing is coming back!

I don't know how many of you actually read the manga or have seen the series, but the Magna that broke the ice for Gothic Horror in Anime is coming back, and this time they actually got it right! There have been rumors here and there about its re-release, but now its actually coming true.

Even better, there's no Incognito! It all appears to be stuff right from the Manga!

It is actually already out at least the first volume anyway in Japan. There will be 1-2 DVDs per manga and the DVDs will be 35-45 minutes It is subbed but it is not dubbed and the script follows the manga pretty much right down to the word. Currently, it will not be released in North America at all.

They don't want to dub it and Geneon's North American division is in disagreement with Wild Geese Production Studio (the group creating Hellsing Ultimate) after what happened the first time.

what happened the first time?
When the anime show first came out, Kohta Hirano had only produced 2 of the 7 mangas that are out now. Like in many anime shows, the writer of the mangas probably didn't have much say in how the show was made. Eventually, the people doing the show ran out of mangas to base shows off of.

To 'save' the show, the writers included

- Random Lesbian Action between Integra and a vampire
- A Twisted version of the relationship between Integra and Alucard
- The possibility of Integra willing becoming a vampire
- Seras having some sort of romantic feelings for an old general 5 times her age
- A flashback of Anderson commiting suicide
- and finally, the greatest mistake of all: 'Incognito'. A poorly done vampire who surrounds himself with purple symbols that look like bad video game graphics from the 1980s. He is a very stereotypical character whose deep and inner plot involves...get this...total destruction of the planet. In an epic battle between him and Alucard he initially defeats Alucard by catching bullets with his head, turning his head invisible, and then shooting them back (you guessed it) with his head.

Now don't get me wrong, Icognito had some potential. They brought up sorcery from the Dark continent, which was cool. But the entire series post episode 6-7 pales incredibly. They also did not include some of the more awesome characters from the Manga, such as the Major, Pip, Heinkel, Yuri/Yuriko.

North American television has much more strict guidelines and as it stands, Hellsing Ultimate would have to be redone for North American audiences and it is not in anyones best interest that that happen. Kohta Hirano wants his story shown in a way that does justice to it and follows the manga. He doesn't want it to be altered because of the bureaucratic process. Also, the North American branch of Geneon does not have the rights to Hellsing Ultimate and thus cannot do anything with it.

Eh, I actually liked the first anime better than the stuff in the manga, except possible Seras' love/hate relationship with Pip. The manga just degenerated into a gorefest of Nazi vampires eating people. I'd rather prefer Incognito to that. If this new version is just going to be a literal translation of the manga, well, I've already 'seen' it why bother? I even like the English dub better than the Japanese subs (I almost always watched anime dubbed rather than subbed anyway, but it seems particularly appropriate for Hellsing, set in England with English people speaking English with English Accents). I know most anime fans would brand me a heretic for saying thus, but my tastes are my own not yours.

....although, as long as Seras still has colassal boobs, I'll probably still check it out one though. I'm only human.
