Aaaw man! I loved those puns. Much needed comic relief by the time the adventurers finally reach the crypts.
Plus it can serve to taunt Strahd during the final encounter.

I am just really glad to see that they are doing something with Ravenloft again. I was concerned that it would just fade off into the night and be forgotten about. I am apprehensive about it, sure, but excited nonetheless.Joël of the Fraternity wrote:Hold your breath!
What's this: click here and gasp!
I-6 in 3rd ed?
But 160 pages seems a lot for just an adventure ... ???

Well, judging from the Excerpts and the Gallery we can clearly judge that Red Hand of Doom won't be very horrific. Tiamat? Blue dragons? Manticores and Hobgoblins? Nah, sounds like default WotC monte haul skull bashingMortepierre wrote:After years of not publishing big adventures and watching other (d20) companies make $ selling theirs (mainly as pdf on the net), WotC just might have decided it was high time to "milk the cow" again (so to speak).
Witness, Red Hand of Doom next month.
Now, if I was a WotC executive and I had to choose another adventure to publish, what could go through my mind?
a) it must have a cool title
b) it must be something that will induce buyers to buy more D&D products (if possible, those that didn't sell too well up till now)
c) it has to please both the "old gang" and the new generation
Looking back at the sales from TSR, one product stands out among many: I6 Ravenloft.
Hey, didn't we just get back the license from WW? Moreover, didn't we just publish Heroes of Horror?
Old castle + undeads + an adventure old enough that newcomers won't know about it but not so old that the oldies would have forgotten about it = $$$
Bingo!
Hence the Castle Ravenloft mega-adventure.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Strahd "converted" to a Dread Necromancer <snorts>

'thas been obvious for a while now, just thought I'd point it out

I picked up the "Red Hand of Doom" adventure this weekend, 130 pages and a double-sided game mat for $25 US. It uses "Heroes of Battle" as it's source. Everything is as Glim mentions above, an overwhelming army led by a half-blue dragon hobgoblin (he does have an alliance with a lich named The Ghostlord). After seeing this, I can easily see that the next release in a 'series', Castle Ravenloft, could be the same sort of super-adventure using "Heroes of Horror" as it's source.
I only wish I had retired sooner!

I've received info that the cover of the Vampire in the Mists rerelease will feature Jander
I'm really curious to see how this will look!

are the covenent books just reprints of the original novels? is castle ravenloft a new product that is coming out? if so will there be more products and what are the ones you have heard of? where is Amazon.com getting their info on this? are the new products really coming or were they scrapped (because I thought that ravenloft was dead and WOtheC were only going to do ebberron or whatever from now on)
Is there any hope that VR guide to the mists will see print ever?
Am I hopelessly lost and confused because I played in the 2E heyday, and am completely loyal to TSR and just collect WOTtheC Ravenloft for fun now?

It is a free .pdf file available at the White Wolf website here.

yes, we don't know of its content or the designer's objectives
no, we don't know after Castle Ravenloft
from WotC
See #3. WW stopped making RL books and gave back the rights to WotC. Now, we just can guess what WotC is doing with the release of Castle Ravenloft 3.5 - is it a test of Ravenloft's popularity that might lead to other RL-themed books? is it just an 3.5 update of this famous adventure, with tips to insert it in other WotC-supported D&D fantasy setting? A mix of intentions? Our spies in WotC have all been caught. We need to get this info!
Stygian answered you - a free PDF of it is available.
May be

As read in one of Ari Marmell's post on Enworld:

Straight from James Wyatt's blog:
Other source quoted say it is "part adventure, part sourcebook"...

---Expedition to Castle Ravenloft has shown up on Amazon, though without the "Expedition to" at the front of the title. I don't actually know which is the correct title! The files I turned over the other week had a four-word title, that's all I know. It was great to work with Bruce on that adventure. I just want to state, for the record, that the horrible tentacled thing is actually mine, not Bruce's. Bruce has a reputation as the creator of all things tentacled (thanks, originally, to his work on The Illithiad for 2nd Edition, I think), but the Formless Spawn was all me.
