Has anyone from Planeswalker.com actually submitted Planescape articles for the magazines? Other people probably have, possibly even people who worked on the original line. If you want to get involved you should probably try approaching them.

The problem is that most of the time the magazines aren't interested in material for cancelled product lines, and when they did do their "Campaign Classics" thing they didn't give any more advance notice about it to planewalker.com than to anyone else.

However, I don't honestly know if, when the Campaign Classics issue was announced last time, anyone at planewalker.com specifically approached Paizo about submitting something. So you may have a point; at the very least, now that it is known that they're planning something Planescape-related for the January issue, it couldn't hurt for us to contact them. It could be that it's too late; that they already have something staff-written that they're planning on using...but in any case, it doesn't hurt anything to ask. I'll bring it up with the Planewalker powers-that-be.

Along those lines, then, I suppose those in charge at this site could approach Paizo about the Ravenloft contribution...

Dragon Magazine itself has hinted that the upcoming January issue will have a Spelljammer emphasis. The September Dragon, #355, has an editorial titled 'Setting Expectations' where Eric Mona discusses the pros & cons of established settings in their magazine and makes this comment: "We'll visit the unsupported settings once a year for January's Campaign Classics theme, so don't count out your favorites from the past just yet!".
Later, in the letters section, they reply "..fans of the official Dungeons & Dragons settings will have much to look forward to in the next year. We even plan to revisit some popular settings from the past that haven't seen meaningful support in years. I'm looking at you, Spelljammer fans."

No. There has been a lot of questions about when it will come out, but no answer. I figure that it will come out around the same time that they release the September e-books for White Wolf and it's subsidiaries on Drivethrurpg. Whether that means this Friday, next Monday or the week after, who knows?

is the van ritchen's guide to the mists going to be in the style of the old guides? and is it going to have 3e rules and wahtnot or be a more general thing (I'm actually not sure what the content is going to be either, i thought the mists was a general term for Ravenloft so it it going to be like an overview of the lands or what?) Anyways that is cool that it is going to be free, I am secretly hoping that wizards finds the kindness to put up a bunch more of the 2E stuff for free downloads, has anyone heard rumors of this. Im also thinking of starting a more personal (3 players) Al-Qadim game and found that 2 of the box sets are free online!!!!! if only that was also true of Ravenloft!

This is all that we know about this book:
Van Richten's Guide to the Mists
Author: Carla Hollar, Rucht Lilavivat
Description:
Spawns of Mist, Creatures of Mystery
Nothing symbolizes the mystery and horror of Ravenloft® more than the Mists. What horrors dwell within? What are their powers and purposes? Only a few hardy souls have braved the dangers of the Mists… and returned to tell the tale.

A Van Richten Guide for Ravenloft
• A complete guide to the Mists, including descriptions of the creatures that dwell within, their powers and weaknesses, the spells and items that affect them, and how to survive encountering them.
• Includes rules to create new Mist-spawned creatures for customized encounters
• Presents new information about the Vistani and others who travel through the Mists

There are a number of topics to discuss about the Mists, and we do know that the volume will contain both in-character text and 3e game mechanics.

-The Vistani and the Mists.
-Creatures with the Mists descriptor (Ferrymen and horrors).
-Outlanders.
-Summoning spells in Ravenloft (and the dark art of Conjuration)
-The Misty Ways.
-The appearance of new lands.
-Exploring the Mists.

I figure that it will at least deal with the Vistani, Major work on the Mist descriptor, and I hope that it deals with Conjurors in Ravenloft. I realize that Conjuration has never worked that well, but it stands next to Necromancy as one of the Darkest Arts. We'll see though.

EDIT: Ah! Thanks Joel.

Let's see... unleashing Toben the Many onto hundreds of hapless player characters, teasing us like this... You're really racking up those power checks, Rucht!

I was thinking about the book though, and I'm going to make a guess. Mist creatures like the Ferrymen and Horrors, while frightening, aren't something you expect to encounter in the same way you bump into a shadow fey torturing a village or a golem on the prowel. I could be wrong, but they generally stick to the mists themselves.

So as far as monsters go, maybe (and this is a shot in the dark) it discusses creatures such as the Headless Horseman and the Phantom Lover. Creatures that appear suddenly, take what they want, and disappear without a trace; that travel on the Mists themselves.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.
