Suggestions for my campaign

Post by artent »

Note: This will be using 2ed rules.

I'm trying to plan out a rather long running Ravenloft Campaign. I'm hoping to have the pc's start out as 1-2 lvl and eventually take on the Grim Harvest Trilogy(which I have not read in detail yet..though I gather the pc's become undead at that point..which would be a fitting end)

I have access to any 3ed material BESIDES the Gaz's(which I fully intend to aquire soon). I also have access to most of the 2ed material(thanks to an ex-hobby store owner freind) As I will doing this at school I do not have time to waste with adventures that will require a great deal of modifications on my part.

I'm hoping to mainly use pre-published scenerios and follow the timeline as close as I can. Other goals include introducing important NPC's for use in later campaigns(Dr. Van Richten for Bleak House), and allowing the PC's to play a important in the timeline.

My current outline looks like this.

(???) Best of Friends(1-3) –Any place with Nobles or (739)Night of the Walking Dead(1-3) –Souragne, (???)Ashington Manor(1-3) – Any place with Nobles

(???) The Created(2-4) -Island

(743) Howls in the night (3-5) –Mordent

(747) The Evil Eye (4-6) -Invidia

(749) Death Unchained(5-7) -Falkovnia, Death Ascendant(6-8.) –Falkovnia + Darkon

(750) Death Triumphant(6-10) -Darkon

As you can see, it's the early parts of the campaign that I'm undecided on. Best of Freinds is a fan adventure I got from who knows where, probly when I was on the Kargatane boards.

Right now the 1st adventure is tied between Ashington Manor and Walking Dead. Ashington Manor has going for it a really cool plot, use of the Tarroka deck, and ease of introduction of a Van Richten guide.
However, it would require more planning as I would need to flesh out many of the descriptions and convert most of the stats from 3rd -> 2ed(which doesn't seem hard in this adventure)

Walking dead has the advantage of being a classic Ravenloft adventure with importance to the timeline. I could also introduce Raul(the smith Vistani from Evil eye) here to give a sense of continuity to the world. On the down side..I don't intend to follow the Hykosha(sp?) plot line, I'm not sure how to get the PC's here or get them out without invoking the mists(which I want to try and avoid where possible). Also, I was in this adventure before and it didn't go over well(but there where odd circumstances, so perhaps it was just us).

Lastly I'm not sure if I want to throw in the Created...it shouldn't be required for leveling purposes, the mists would be required to get them there, and the setting seems to be at odds with the theme of the campaign.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Did I get a setting or date wrong someplace?...is one of these adventures iffy to the extreme with out extreme planning? Am I missing somthing that I should consider..like the nightmare lands?

Night of the walking dead is a very interesting adventure. I use it as a model when I make mystery adventures.

I agree. Best five bucks I ever spent on DnD.

I decided to scrap the Death Trilogy and replace them with the Servants of Darkness and Shadow Rift Modules. Seems like less dungeon crawlyness, and fewer crazed suicidal black clad assasins.....and I can use VRGttSF

FWIW, the finale of the Death Trilogy is in the Requiem: The Grim Harvest boxed set. Easy to forget that sometimes.
