Am I getting to old to play?

Okay so I have been playing DnD seriously for about 20 years now and the other night I noticed that most of my players were all at least five years younger than me (I am 20) So I wonder if any of the rest of you are my age and still playing.

Well, I'm 28 years old and have been playing Dungeons & Dragons for about twenty years as well. My tabletop gaming declined quite a bit after I graduated from college about seven years ago, but some of my friends and I still get together to roleplay now and again.

I think that the biggest factor isn't your age so much as your responsibilities. The fact that I'm married, working a fulltime job, and handling the social and financial responsibilities of an adult makes it difficult to get together. Younger players, who typically don't have to pay bills yet, have the time and finances tp get together more often. Obviously, this is not always true, but it seems to be correct more times than not.

On a side note, you are 20 and you've been playing D&D seriously for about 20 years? Were you 2 when you starting playing? I've met some people that started at an early age, but you would be the youngest by far.

Well, I'm 26 and have been playing (or mostly, DMing) for about 14 or 15 years.

My players are 24 (the youngest), 25, 26, 27 und 34 (or 35, can't remember).

One of them has been playing for almost 25 years (although with long breaks, as she says), one other is now playing for the third or fourth year (having started in my group).

Hey, don't worry about being old, age is just a number! As Jason of the Fraternity said, as long as you maintain your other responsibilities, then no problem, right! Our gaming group has had a wide variety of players (myself being 21, with other players/dm's being 27, 28, 18, 20, and late 40's). Theres never an age restriction on having that kid in your heart!

Well, I've been playing since I was four, and I'm now twenty-four, and I've no intentions of quitting. Nor do any of my players, two of whom are thirty, the others early twenties. We're a good social mix, we attend conventions attended by people the same age, much younger and much older than we are, and get on fine with all of them. Why the hell should you stop? Beyond the points raised by Jason about responsibilities eating more time, there are no good reasons, and even that isn't a reason to stop, just a reason to consider proritities.

41 here, playing since I am 17.

My current group's age is 25, 41x4 and 50.

We are playing with the same party since ± 1987 (one left, one came in).

Long live D&D. It keeps your brain working.

How old are your kids now? I remember when you proudly declared that your daughter (8 years old then) could name the chromatic dragons and their respective breath weapons. And that she managed to convince her friends she is a vampire.

23 here and playing since I was 12 when I was in the hospital for treatment of cancer. That opened my world and i havent stoped since. My group has been together for 8 years and have had some great games. Responicbility and time mangement are the biggest factors for the group now, we didnt play this spring!! But we still pull together to get a game together. Ages 25, 24, 23,23,21,21.

Age isn't a factor. If you enjoy D&D it is a good way to spend the time. Not all of us will be great authors or life saving doctors. Not everyone has the stamina to run the marathon for their country -but you can for a little while by picking up some dice and forging your own destiny. Tell a story with you as the hero and main character.

Plus if you can take some of that confidence to your life, part of the humor and fun, then I think you've rolled the greatest 20 of all

I'm 20, soon to be 21 (watch out beer, hear I come).

I started only last year. I just grabbed the monster manual out of curiosity and started reading. Of course, then I needed to read the DM guide and player's handbook to understand it. And then, amazingly, I could DM!

Your never too old to play. Or too old to start.

I'm 20, almost 21. I've been playing for about 10 years give or take a couple. And I'd agree youre never too old to play.

Thanks again all for the wonderful comments. It's so nice to know that no one on this board thinks that a thirty year old man is weird for continuing to play.
