Alain can sell the armor and/or convert the gold to gemstones in town at 50% value. It's not a big settlement and its limited market cannot offer a better price.

If he makes a trip to the nearest city he can sell the armor and change the gold at 75%. Good skill rolls (appraise, diplomacy, profession could all apply) might push that towards 90%.

Also called Warlock Knights, these warrior-witches worship a giant iron idol that fell from the heavens onto the central plains of Vaasa less than a century ago. They possess superior armor and weapons and skill in a strange kind of sorcery. Golems or automatons serve them, along with humanoid monsters.
The warlocks subjugate or drive out all mages. They have brought order to central Vaassa and are now spreading out to conquer the rest of the country--rumors suggest they will hardly stop with Vaasa, but mean to sweep across the whole of the Bloodstone Lands.
The order is a twisted mirror of Impilitur's illustrious chivalry.

Alain's source, a packhorse handler who recently delivered food and other supplies the strangers' ordered from the sundryhouse (general store) in town, claims that the strangers number at least thirty men. Armed in brigandine or coats of mail, with swords, spears, maces, crossbows, and so on. At least ten horses. The apparent leader is a woman with an eyepatch.

Perhaps we should just go ask them why they are here. They are reasonable enough to conduct business with the local store, so they might take a scant moment to help us make sure we don't get in their way, and vice versa.

Yes, I would agree as paying for food delivery is a very lawful thing to do as the company seems of size that could just raid the town if they had a mind to do it .
