Bennedict nods. "Alright, we'll go see what's what."
"Of course," Benn mutters, "It would be a damned shame if we ever knew what the hell was actually going on."

THE BURIAL GROUND
Benn and the ones going with him travel south to a hilltop Ezran shrine and surrounding burial ground in the outskirts of the city.
Those who attended Hornsby's brief funeral service the other day will recognize the site.
A stone fence runs round the base of the hire hill, and beyond this barrier the headstones rise in concentric circles--broken by a winding stairway of cobbles that climbs to the porch of the marble shrine at the summit.
The hilltop fane looks like a squat obelisk or small pyramid of limestone masonry.
Autumn has settled early in this place of the dead, with sere leaves mounded against the bases of monuments and the grave-grass burned to brown.
The iron gate in front stands locked, but clambering over the fence isn't hard with help from a friend.
A look about the boneyard reveals a little cottage attached to the barrier fence on the lee of the hillside---it may be the caretaker's quarters.
Anyone going to knock at the door will quickly spot the slate hung on a hook to the right of the doorway.

..
At the top of the hill, after climbing the steep and crooked step-path, investigators discover the lime-washed wooden door of the shrine standing just slightly ajar.
Soft noises come from within.
Anyone peeking inside catches the glint of firelight and a shadow moving along a wall.

Bennedict enters, assuming it is Thibault or one of his investigators. He scans the scene quickly, checking his friend's newly constructed grave for signs of disturbance.

Stopping at Hornsby's grave for a quick inspection, Benn sees nothing unusual.
At the shrine...
A gaunt man looms in the doorway. He squints at Benn.
"Sir?"
The man steps back into the dim shrine interior, moving to the right side of a tall alcove on the back wall where a statue of a woman with sword and shield stands.
Light glints from a pair of brass buttons on the man's dark coat.
A little bowl set at the ledge along the base of the statue holds plant cuttings---green leaves and little black fruit.

Kat follows politely, mostly still watching the stranger. She is pleasant enough if spoken to, but clearly still suspicious, and yet to introduce herself.
She seems a little uneasy in the graveyard, looking around with an air of alertness, hand never far from her hilt

Kat sees that the shrine interior presents as somber an appearance as the graveyard.kintire wrote:Kat follows politely, mostly still watching the stranger. She is pleasant enough if spoken to, but clearly still suspicious, and yet to introduce herself.

No fancy flourishes of the builder's art within, just bare masonry pierced with irregularly-placed nooks for candles--all unlit now, though the faint smell of hot wax lingers in the close air.
The human-height marble statue of Our Lady of the Mists seems to watch Kat and her company from its shadowy alcove, shield raised over the breast and sword held in low guard, ready for a sudden thrust at unworthy visitors.

As he walks through the graveyard, Klokulf muses privately at how the dead buried with the rites of false religions can still find rest. Is it a matter of post mortem self-deception, or--
No. Perish the thought.
At the shrine, he appraises the man before them silently, sparing enough time to look with veiled disdain upon the heretical iconography.

After finding out that the party went to investigate a grave robbery, Alain goes there to see what he can do to help out and to see if this has anything to do with what they have been dealing with so far .
He quickly looks for the caretaker to show him what what grave has been disturbed if on the way to his cottage he does not see it . At the Sign he will go up as the note on it says .

Alain finds Benn, Kat, and a stranger with another stranger, standing inside the hilltop shrine.Lord Skybolt wrote:After finding out that the party went to investigate a grave robbery, Alain goes there to see what he can do to help out and to see if this has anything to do with what they have been dealing with so far .

If he steps inside, it'll be a bit crowded, but not so much so that he'll bump his companions into the walls getting in.

Bennedict turns towards the man. He looks at his well armed group of friends barging in and smiles apologetically. "We're here on behalf of the Gendarmies. We were told there was some sort of disturbance here."
"Of course," Benn mutters, "It would be a damned shame if we ever knew what the hell was actually going on."

''Ah. They said you might come by, sir. Yes, there was a grave robbery. Not a fresh 'n. Poor chap had been in the ground about eight years. It's strange. Resurrection-men go after new-buried corpses, usually...''
He shrugs.''Strange...Ah! That's right. I checked the records. Marker was defaced, but the books show it was a fellow named John Strange.''

Raen enters the shrine for a bit and politely offers a short prayer. He listens on the discussion on John Strange but has nothing to add. He doesn't seem suspicious of the graveyard keeper. He does look for a weapon though, hoping this man is an anchorite and not just a plain worker.

No weapon visible on the man, but Raen notices a spade on the hillside outside the shrine.

Bennedict mutters to himself, "A thousand loose-ends, and none of them tied off..."
He turns back to the man. "If you are not busy, could you escort us to the site? I would examine it."
