Up until this point, the party dynamic has worked out well enough, as everybody but the Paladin and Cleric has either perished tragically or quit adventuring to pursue other interests (mostly the former), and most of the characters the other players roll up start with the best of intentions only to have their unspoken desires and darkest fantasies slowly and subtly twist their actions toward selfish (or outright malignant) ends. It also helps that the Paladin is pretty simple-minded (INT of 8 ) and trusts his companions a bit more than is probably healthy, though not so much that it strains the boundary of plausibility.
I'll talk with the group and make sure that everyone's on the same page. The Paladin player agreed when we first started this campaign that there was probably going to be a point at which he'd be required to take issue with the actions of some other party members, but since almost no one has their original characters anymore, it's been both delayed in its onset and complicated by having a few storyline loose ends involving deceased/retired party members that the current crop of adventurers haven't gotten around to tying up, yet.
I definitely appreciate the help all of you fine folks are giving me on this. Hopefully, this'll all be resolved with a minimum of Powers Check-worthy actions, a couple of player character funerals, and a handful of destroyed villages.

I swear I am not trying to cause a problem, but wouldn't various levels of duplicity be detectable by Wisdom as well? Just a thought as paladins tend to be high in that regard (and I know a guy like that, not sharp but he picked up on some things others did not).Terminusvitae wrote:It also helps that the Paladin is pretty simple-minded (INT of 8 ) and trusts his companions a bit more than is probably healthy, though not so much that it strains the boundary of plausibility.

Yeah, that's how he eventually figured out that his compatriots were possibly deceiving him, either overtly, by omission, or simply making deals behind his back, when a few seemingly minor details just weren't adding up. Going alongside that, the other party members don't know how much he's already figured out, so they've each decided the best thing to do is stay silent for the time being and keep doing what they're doing, hoping Goody Two-Shoes doesn't catch on to enough misdeeds to feel compelled to do something about it.Dark Angel wrote:I swear I am not trying to cause a problem, but wouldn't various levels of duplicity be detectable by Wisdom as well?
