Re: Influences and Inspirations

Okay, I'm totally checking out the Cthulhu game and Undying. And I heartily second the recommendation of the Thief games. (I did not know that Looking Glass studios had such a sizable percentage of female employees. Awesome on them.) I can even suggest the third Thief game, Deadly Shadows, if for no...

Re: Influences and Inspirations

I've found much of Lincoln & Child's Pendergast series to be a good inspiration. I particularly recommend the first three books in the series: Relic, Reliquary and most especially Cabinet of Curiosities :D

Re: Pre - modern Gothic earth

I certainly wouldn't pay $100 for the book! I got mine for $5 at a book sale...

I believe it exists for pretty cheap in .pdf format. Check DriveThruRPG :D

Re: Pre - modern Gothic earth

I've considered it, to be sure. The Seven Seas setting could be very useful if you want to run a MotRD game in the 16th or 17th centuries. I also bought a copy of the very interesting Colonial Gothic and Witchfinder RPGs with an eye towards using them in a pre-1890s Gothic Earth game...

Re: How did you get introduced to Ravenloft/become a fan of

I don't think it was meant as Christopher Lee likes Ravenloft so much as Christopher Lee *films* had helped engender the poster's love of gothic horror, which then translated to Ravenloft?

It wasn't bad. Totally different to the original film (though the nod, or rather slam, to Bobo-the-Owl made me laugh), but not bad. I felt like it was the pilot episode for a series, however. Probably because it was too short.

I've managed to watch it, despite it's non-existence (STILL!) in the U.S. Awesome movie. As previously mentioned, doesn't follow the books all that closely, but who cares? The film is a blast. And Solomon Kane = uber-badass monster hunter. I think George may fit the bill better than Van Richten. VR ...

Interestingly, I am *not* a fan of horror in general. Can't stand Stephen King, Anne Rice, etc, and I loathe most horror films I've ever seen. However. I've loved ghost stories my entire life, and I adore the Victorian Gothic movement. (Though I confess, I still have not yet read Castle of Otranto.)...

Cheers on a great job, White Star folks!!

I've greatly increased the population of the Core in my campaign, and upped the general tech level across the board. Guns are not terribly common, but they are increasing in use. A railroad is being constructed to connect Mordentshire, Dementlieu, Lamordia, and Borca. (The steam engine tech is Lamor...

An intriguing idea. I didn't much care for Pan's Labyrinth overall, but I can see how it would make for excellent Ravenloft fodder! (Especially that...thing...with the eyeball in its hand. :: shudders :: )) I think the question is, really, do you want a resistance-versus-fascists adventure, or do yo...

(No worries, I haven't posted in forever either. Not that I'm a big-poster around here, but still...:D) I'm really intrigued by this idea!! From a writing standpoint, he'd be a fantastic character to write (and now I have plot bunnies demanding I steal this idea and run away with it. Curse you!!) Fr...
