Re: What is Ravenloft missing?
An update to the timeline. After so many years, it is boring to see always the same characters in the same timeloops, beside With Wolf, no publisher take care of the story. Since the balck box it is always the same thing, with little change, but always at the same time. It is why i loved the thread ...

Re: WotC: Novels and Non-5E Lore Are Officially Not Canon
Canon in an RPG setting is like the base timeline, the default everyone’s game branches off. It’s important because it means new products can be slotted in to the story and people can take or leave them, but it builds the internal logic of the setting and creates the agreed default that anyone can ...

Re: What are the best homebrewed domains/darklords EVER CREA
It is a matter of taste. My favorite one coming from the FoS is the Shinning Bay, coupled with the Paridon Gazeeter (also here), you can have an awesome victorian cluster.
For my own, my players liked one i made based on the legend that inspired the Beauty and the Beast (way more darker).

Re: [VRGtR]: Alhoon's ramblings and discussions of them
Other than partially absorbing the ethereal plane's functions there isn't a lot of difference aside from the Raven Queen being added. The Spelljammer adventure Under the Dark Fist actually had an option where the main villain gets pulled to Ravenloft and has a domain contained within a crystal sphe...

Re: [VRGtR]: Alhoon's ramblings and discussions of them
Between 4th and 5th, I suppose not. Further back than that, I am given to understand that the Mists were in the Deep Ethereal, not the Plane of Shadow. This is correct, the Demiplane of Dread is located in the deep ethereal. For the Planescape view on it (limited though it is) the "A Guide to ...

Re: Night of the walking dead: under the blood moon
Might I suggest our own Gaz of Souragne as supplemental material? I don't have much specific to offer, but I recall a weird tidbit from one of the old 2e sources that said the Dark Powers would have made Souragne part of the Core, but Misroi preferred to be isolated and kept it that way through she...

Night of the walking dead: under the blood moon
I think the first module was a great introduction for Ravenloft, with several vilains, plots and, beside the Mc Guffin at the end to let the players win (which i changed after my first run), it is a great module. Since our old team is back is business after years of hiatus, i will begin a new campai...

Re: [VRGtR]: Alhoon's ramblings and discussions of them
I'm somehow confused because, if i remember correctly, the Plane of Shadow became the Shadowfell during the 4th edition, with a new place among the other planes. But in the book, page 6, the plane is still named plane of shadows so... Meh ? Edit: and at page 61, it is mentionned "in the far-flu...

Re: WORLDS OF RAVENLOFT is coming to DMsGuild
Well, if you want to take a historical figure as a darklord of Har'Akir, take Amenhotep IV (aka Akhenaton), a pharao that tried to change the egyptian cultur to become monotheist. he built a new capital and was perhaps killed by the priests. His name was erased, his city forgotten and his tomb was d...

Re: Jester's Review of Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft
Why is Bram Stoker the authoritative voice of Strahd von Zarovich? Not sure I follow. Actually, I don't. Whether I agree with such an assessment, if I choose to base Strahd on a particular folkloric version of vampire, or not, is irrelevant in regards to the question. Call it curiosity... Each have...

Re: Reconciliation
Potentially noobish question/suggestion, but could all of this be conceivably the start of the Time of Unparalleled Darkness? With all the weirdness going on - alternate realities and variant darklords appearing, some domains (Darkon) slowly collapsing, the (potential) reliance on Mist Talismans to...

Re: Reconciliation
Or maybe something like the memory dump in Inside Out? Not an aggressive hollowing-out, but a steady, unstoppable slide into dust and oblivion. This is the very description of what i'm wanting to create with this "neverwhere". A backdrop where i can put any domains that doesn't "fit&...

Re: Jester's Review of Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft
Well bram stoker himself: "It represents the temptation we cannot resist: the vampire imposes his will on his victim, and delivers the victim's consciousness from the weight of the guilt of having given in to something she hoped for, but which was considered to be fundamentally wrong. It serves...
