Re: Pathfinder v 5e
I moved to 5e and didn't regret it, it's much more streamlined.

Re: 5e announced!
Yeah it doesn't make much sense that a strand of 10 ogres has the same hp as a solo ogre. maybe we can just moltiply the hp of the strand by ten. Similarly, I think the rules could be extended to allow for bigger homogeneous strands (e.g. 50 skeletons, 300 kobolds...) by considering the average hp a...

Re: 5e announced!
actually the spell says: Choose one creature, object, or magical effect within range. so it refers to spells active on the target, not to generic "magical effects". Where did you read that? It refers to magical effects on targets, it just explains how to deal with spells, failing to menti...

Re: 5e announced!
actually the spell says: Choose one creature, object, or magical effect within range. Any spell of 3rd level or lower on the target ends. For each spell of 4th level or higher on the target, make an ability check using your spellcasting ability. The DC equals 10 + the spell’s level. On a successful ...

Re: 5e announced!
BTW, the DMG (pag. 141) specifies that a rogue cannot use its bonus action to activate a magic item that requires an action. Which means you can only do stuff like pull levers, I guess. Not that useful.

Re: 5e announced!
Also the average damage of the monster increased a lot, right? a mummy is CR 3 (which would be the equivalent of a CR 7 in 3e) and deals 5d6+3+mummy rot with a fist...

Re: 5e announced!
At 3rd level they can use the rogue bonus action to use an object, and at 13th they ignore class, level and race restrictions on the use of magic items. BTW, are wands even restricted to casters? it doesn't say so in the item description and they don't require attunement

Re: 5e announced!
I used to give my players wands with a small number of charges to keep them in check and avoid nova effects. Also, it's reasonable that someone used the wand before they find it, unless they craft it themselves. As you say we'll have to be a little careful on how we hand them out, since now they sta...

Since I most likely won't have to reference it during the game, for the DMG I think I'l just find some cheaper PDF edition and not have a paper one

Re: Optional rule: Specific hosts for calling spells
Arbiters seem to be the imps of the inevitables, so I added the familiar clause. For Lhaksharut, I put a spellcaster who may have violated planar boundaries by summoning outsiders or trying to leave but never did. I don't want the restriction to be extremely specific; the hit dice requirement for th...

Re: Optional rule: Specific hosts for calling spells
For angelic hosts they would be nice, but ideally the angel requires informed consent from the host for a procedure that will literally kill him; we could say that angels refuse to do this to children. I suppose it depends on whether you're going with "the subject dies" or "the subje...
