Re: Regional Traits by domain

This thread reminds me of "regional feats", something they implemented for 3.X Forgotten Realms, where depending on a character's native "region" they could choose a feat at level 1 from a list that represented their region's culture/features; regional feats tended to be slightly...

Re: Madame Eva

but she has always appeared as a wizened crone in all centuries she has existed in the Land of Mists. The look how she feels is Vistani lore. As I see it she always "feels" too wise to be younger than she looks. IIRC I've read someone who raised the possibility that the Gentleman Caller c...

Re: Language in the Dread Realms

I might spend some time putting together a table or something that shows what languages are common for different domains. I'm trying to get something easy for my players to have access to, so they can see what languages are useful where at a glance. Funny, doing the same myself for my setting overh...

Re: A map of the dread domains

Yeah, saw that map when it was posted; great work, but unfortunately shows many reasons why I really dislike 5e even though it's correcting one of its worst mistakes (eliminating the Core).

Re: Book of Crypts

Huh, so I'm guessing the vampiric phantom is actually Leederik of the eponymous Tower, then. And IIRC Liffe's association with the Book of Crypts dates back to the Domain of Dread hardcover, what with Moondale, Armeikos and Claveria being mentioned there as settlements. Also, never played or read it...

Re: A map of the dread domains

Surprised that nobody mentioned this map of the Core, from the Ravenloft Cartographical Society thread; I daresay it's my personal favorite overall.

Re: New “Ravenloft” novel

...Yeah, hard pass for me. Besides that this appears to be a continuation of the butchering of my favorite D&D setting, that orc twink is representative of one of the recent changes to D&D that I most despise: "orcs are popular now, so they can't be evil brutes anymore 'because it's rac...

Re: Movies that have that Ravenloft feel

This should go without saying, but Wes Craven's Prince of Darkness . ...That's actually John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness . The second part of his (otherwise unrelated) "Apocalypse trilogy" along with The Thing (my favorite movie ever) and In the Mouth of Madness (which I saw three time...

Re: Movies that have that Ravenloft feel

Finally saw Eggers' take on Nosferatu and definitely agree - was a terrific film. Bill Skarsgard is unrecognizable under the heavy makeup and costume (as well as that raspy voice) but gives an awesomely creepy performance. The movie both brings back the vampire to its roots as a monstrous undead and...

Re: Sarcantasy

Just read the first chapter and color me intrigued. The Fifth Choir sport an interestingly bizarre design, and the characters and bits of potential worldbuilding held my attention.

Re: Doppelganger vs. Lycanthropy

Okay, so I guess my question is, what makes a doppelganger immune to lycanthropy? I browsed the Dopp netbook and the Zherisia gaz and haven't seen an explanation. Sorry for the late response, but from a purely rules perspective (in 3.X anyway), it's because doppelgangers have the "monstrous hu...

Re: Fiend's reality wrinkle and 5th edition lair effects

Has anyone seen any corrupted Genies? Like a Grave Dao or Pyre Efreeti? (Sorry for the late answer, was absent from the forum for a while) DUDE. That is an AWESOME idea. I'll likely have to steal it (with your permission of course) for when I get to Pharazia and/or make an Arabian Nights-based Clus...

Re: Fiend's reality wrinkle and 5th edition lair effects

But in 3.5 they had no alignement subtype. Then what I said, does not apply to 3.5 Githyanki. Although I have asked the question in 2001 or 2002 I think, before 3.5. EDIT : 3.5 edition Githyanki are not even outsiders! they are extraplanar humanoids which for Ravenloft is the same as any ot...

Re: Fiend's reality wrinkle and 5th edition lair effects

Even Gith get reality wrinkles? Huh, that's wild, especially since they've never been treated as fiends otherwise. Would it be safe then to assume that other Outer Planes creatures such as Slaadi, Modrons, Formians, Inevitables, and the various types of celestials (screw you 4-5e for scrapping archo...
