Re: Jester's Review of Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft
From the review... But this book goes a step farther referring to Ez “replacing her leg with a splendid prosthetic after a werewolf attack.” Emphasis added. Wizards of the Coast really, really want readers to know they’re sorry for even accidentally implying people should be ashamed for having an ar...

Re: Ravenloft is back in 5e?
Okay, I have to object the constant references to "that woman". If we're going to really sink to sexist comments, let's at least consider another POV on that situation: https://www.theverge.com/2018/7/6/17541318/guild-wars-arenanet-jessica-price-peter-fries-fired-reddit Further, Price has...

Re: Ravenloft is back in 5e?
This is also one of the reasons why I'm genuinely interested in this book, from a very Hannibal Lecter "let's see what happens" perspective: That woman, Price, if her only game is being a loudmouth, she will expose herself with this in a way that is impossible to ignore for anyone in the ...

Re: It is back!!! What we do know about VR Guide to Ravenlof
In other words: laziness. True, it takes work to make the Core into a realistic continent, but that's exactly what the Gazetteers were so good at (e.g explaining why Drakov refuses to use gunpowder in his army). Challenges lead to creativity. Avoiding them and choosing the easy way leads to lame re...

Re: It is back!!! What we do know about VR Guide to Ravenlof
My sense is that the same sort of thing is going on here. By saying that each domain is an island unto itself ... the designers now didn't have to worry about the plot holes/inconsistencies that would be caused when one land was an apocalyptic wasteland ... while its next door neighbor was a renais...

Re: Ravenloft is back in 5e?
The conceptual expansion of Arijani's domain with rivaling powers could be interesting in giving PCs more to do. (Little has been done with the domain other than Web of Illusion .) Web of Illusion was also just a "hunt the darklord" adventure. Arijani himself really didn't have any person...

Re: It is back!!! What we do know about VR Guide to Ravenlof
Things I'm really looking forward to in the new book: A 20 page adventure on House of Lament. I've been waiting for an adventure based around this ever since Darklords. I think Death House from CoS was at best 10 pages? Hopefully, this really channels stuff like The Haunting or Legend of Hell House....

Re: Ravenloft is back in 5e?
I'm sorry I missed that barb. I didn't mean to approve of a point made at the expense of another poster, especially Drinnik. That's not right. I apologize. Also, I've had another disturbing thought. Now that many Core domains are going to be islands, are they going to change the road and river name...

Re: Ravenloft is back in 5e?
I'm pretty surprised about how negative the overall response to the announcement has been: Good or bad, it rejuvenates this very community here, and it gives the setting another twenty years of lifespan, if we're lucky. Like, to put this in perspective: If you started playing with the "Realm o...
