Re: Gothic Horror vs Dark Fantasy
Drow - I’d just say the character is an elf with dark skin and none of the mechanical changes from a normal elf. Kenku and orcs I’d allow, but the character is a monster and will be treated as such until some real character defining acts become well known in the area. Teiflings would be monsters and...

Re: The Thief series was almost Ravenloftian
I played the third one until it got too stealthy. I really liked the world building and lore.

Re: The Thief series was almost Ravenloftian
It struck me as strange as how even though we knew a world existed outside the City there really didn’t seem to be much to it. There were other cities they traded with, but that seemed to be all they existed for. Similarly maybe there were some farms and towns outside the City, but it seemed to beco...

Re: A Question of Time
So two things: About 20 years ago I read a good argument that Spider-Man was about 27 even though he had been around 50 real world years, and while the guy had some good arguments based on when Peter graduated high school, college, and dropped out of grad school, to a large degree it came down to he...

In Bolivia iirc there is a tradition of female wrestlers who wear traditional dresses and bowler hats in the ring.

Re: Latin American cluster
I’ve read once or twice about a mine in Peru. It’s at least a few hundred years old. Inside there’s a shrine to a being. He’s not a good being, and the miners offer it food, liquor, and cigarettes in hopes of keeping him from causing cave ins, falls, and other hazards. I always thought this had pote...

Re: The primary masquerade problem of a high-society vampire
As someone who doesn’t play, I’ll admit my suggestions are probably out of left field sometimes, but I do wonder if it ruins vampires. Have you never stayed up late, woke up early, or pulled an all nighter? Perhaps the vampire incurs penalties of some sort the next day or days, but this is a necessa...

Re: The primary masquerade problem of a high-society vampire
I don’t think my one mentioned one straight forward method. Your upper class vampire probably controls a number of properties for business or pleasure. There shouldn’t be any trouble having people meet them in an inner room during the day or even holding large indoor functions during the day at the ...

Re: How similar are the rules of Pathfinder and D&D 3e?
Pathfinder is practically tweaked 3.5 edition. When WotC greedily moved to 4th edition which was controversial to downright unpopular in order to make money from its dominance of the market, Pathfinder greedily backstabbed WotC and (ab)using the OGL used their own tools, to become D&D's main co...

Re: Ideal Ravenloft Videogame
I was thinking more about the Oregon Trail idea today, and it occurred to me you could make this into two games which have roughly the same gameplay loop at the meta level while being different in the details. So game one would be basically Oregon Trail. Diseases, more random events like finding ber...

Re: Ideal Ravenloft Videogame
Something where you play as a Vistani caravan or wagon like Oregon Trail would be a fun phone game. Maybe you pick up not quests so much as jobs or reasons to go here or there so it is not one linear trip every time.

Re: Incredibly obscure lore found on Forgotten Realms wiki
Not sure if it would be considered “canon” or is even relevant as it was a Forgotten Realms item, but back in the day there was a series of Forgotten Realms novels called “The Cities”, and there was a novel titled “City of Ravens” about Raven’s Bluff that was part of it. Like I said other than maybe...

Re: Happy New Year
For the last few years around this time people start taking about “Lunar New Year”. Now what they really mean is Chinese New Year which is indeed based on a lunar calendar, but it is just one of many, all with a different New Year’s Day usually.
Anyways is there more than one calendar in Ravenloft?
