If blending high-tech into a game setting without allowing it to spread is at issue, I might as well mention a solution that the Mystara writers came up with: in a pinch, the gods (or Immortals, Dark Powers, etc) could always cheat. Take high-tech hardware out of its proper context, and the devices...

It's also worth noting that non-Vistani smugglers have the option of using the desperately poor as expendable couriers, in much the same way that real-world drug cartels hire "mules" to carry cocaine in condoms inside their stomachs across the borders. If the goods entrusted to the mule ar...

I take "forging one's own damnation" to mean traveling to hell, or giving/selling your soul to a demon (which will take it to hell with him when he returns). There's absolutely no element of moral judgement at all, either in the sense that you have to be very evil to go there, or if you ar...

S traveling with the Carnival? Sounds interesting--was she going to be with them long enough to experience the Twisting, and what would hers be if so? Or was that not decided yet?

Another possibility I just thought of: as indicated by his comments in Gaz IV, p. 69, it seems that Azalin is aware that the Grand Conjunction precipitated the transfer of control of the former domain of Arkendale to its new darklord, Alfred Timothy. He may well be grooming S to take over the darklo...

I don't think that Azalin's goal this time is physical escape. I think the attribute of Malocchio's that Azalin is interested in is his immunity to curses. In Gaz IV p.48, right after S describes how Malocchio is seemingly immune to Vistani curses, Azalin interjects to say that "Were you not so...

I was thinking along the lines of "possess Malocchio's body" myself, but rather than bring his phylactery to Malocchio, he must bring Malocchio to him--which means he must be freed first ("...give him that which he does seek..."). As for S's bracer, I'm guessing that it contains ...

Yeah, if Drakov can leave his realm for a while, he'd have to be immune to the border closures of the other darklords, just so he couldn't get trapped in someone else's domain (although his men wouldn't have this). A slightly different way of doing things I just thought of would be to define his dom...

That's an interesting idea. It would certainly explain how he can stay so ignorant of his circumstances; he would otherwise surely know that something's up when he tries to lead his army into Darkon and an invisible barrier knocks him off his horse! Don't forget that in the RL DMG (IIRC) it also say...

I've always had a hard time seeing the DPs as being good, but that doesn't mean that they're evil. I personally tend towards some form of the basic theory that the dark powers are many, and that some of them are good while some of them are evil. Perhaps the nature of the demiplane is such that open ...

They don't always list the phylacteries even for fiends that entered "normally"; Styrix the night hag was summoned by Azalin, but I can't remember or seem to find a phylactery listed for her either.

Oops. I went to my old 3.0 stuff to get the conversion... and found that I had forgotten a key detail: I never got around to finishing it. How embarassing! I'm sorry.

And if the version in the Fiend Folio isn't to your liking, I did a conversion to 3.0 a while back that I'd be willing to share.

Imps are supposed to be master manipulators, very adept at getting their masters to do whatever they want. However, there is no sign of Squalimous being successful in this. In any case, one of their key tools for manipulating people, the suggestion spell, won't work on Azalin because he's undead. Li...

ScS of the Fraternity wrote:then sell them as Redwood or solid oak for ten times their price to wealthy lords (and archmage gorillas).
Now that's a marketing campaign that would be interesting to see. There can't be very many market research studies done on archmage gorillas, even in Ravenloft
