Re: Ideas on Duke Gundar's Death?
Thank you so much for all this info in one place. I had been away on vacation, but really appreciate this. Hmm, gives me some good ideas to tweak around. Will surely put my own spin on some of this, but these are great starting points. Much appreciated.

Ideas on Duke Gundar's Death?
Forgive me if this has been discussed before. I'm currently running a 5e Ravenloft campaign which I started in the time of the Black Box and I am running through the various Grand Conjunction modules. I'm not sure where I originally saw this information, but when the Red Box set was introduced and t...

Re: Van Richten
I just started my new campaign, we are about 4 sessions in now. I brought the group together for a friend's funeral in a small village in Mordent. Van Richten was one of the funeral attendees. He said a few words at the grave site (as did the rest of the group) and joined them for the repast afterwa...

Re: Bane of the Shadowborn: Ideas? :)
The whole Shadowborn saga is a favorite of mine. I'm only 3 sessions in to our new RL campaign. One of the players is playing a character from Darkon who has faded memories of an attack on his home village. He remembers coming home to his village razed to the ground and found symbols of a horned sku...

Re: What would you want in an official 5e Ravenloft setting?
I want a whole year dedicated to Ravenloft. I know it's not feasible or profitable for Wizards of the Coast, but you asked me what I wanted. (Then again, I still want my old box sets too). Whatever campaign settings they decide to release, I feel just 1 book isn't enough to get players, (especially ...

Re: Black Box era, what did we do?
My first box set was the Red box. Reading through it, I fell in love with the setting but felt that I was missing something. I used a few of the modules for "weekend in hell" adventures. It wasn't till Domains of Dread came out that I could see the potential for a home campaign with native...

Re: New Azalin artwork
So in the actual book, they don't actually mention Azalin in the text (they mentioned him in a sample of the product originally, but I guess it didn't make it into the final product). There is a little blurb under the pic that says "Azalin, the Lich, spies on Castle Ravenloft". That's it ...

Re: Comedic PC Characters
Thanks everyone, some good advice all around. My concerns mostly dealt with the fact that with the exception of this player, the group has never played in the setting. Horror scenarios yes, but not a full blown Ravenloft campaign. I'll set the tone, expectations and buy in at session 0. This is a fu...

Comedic PC Characters
I'm assuming sometime in January, my current group will start our 3rd campaign and it will be based in Ravenloft with native PC characters. Using various 3rd party supplements as well as some homebrew, it will be a 5e game. IMO 5e is very player friendly and can be hard to evoke that sense of dread ...

Re: Stakin' Strahd
Yeah the fever dream actually worked out well. I don't remember all the details its been awhile but I remember liking how it turned out. I know Ravenloft II can be a hot mess to run, but I didn't leave anything to chance, unlike the tarroka reading I just role played out the mesmerism scene with my ...

Re: Stakin' Strahd
No, can't say my groups ever did. I've only pitted 2 groups against him. The first time was playing through House of Strahd in second edition. Using the ending in this update to the original adventure, they got him down where they thought they had him, but as the setting granted him so many safety n...

Re: How Do You Focus Your Campaigns?
Thank you everyone. Some really good advice. I'm going to simply make an outline and then at session 0 when the characters are created I'm going to take some notes and go from there. I have a few ideas/modules I want to play but otherwise I'll let the player characters drive the narrative. I was pla...

Re: How Do You Focus Your Campaigns?
Thank you. Yeah I'm just going to wing it. The players are a mix. Some have role played before and some started at my table. But none of them know Ravenloft which I'll use to my advantage. I'm going to use the adventure path as my outline and I'm thinking I'll use the Grand Conjunction along with it...

How Do You Focus Your Campaigns?
Hi there. New to the forums but an old 2e AD&D DM who is now playing with a new group of players in 5e. I've been itching to run a full-blown Ravenloft campaign with native player characters. We are about 75% through my current campaign so I have plenty of time to work out the details of the gro...
