Re: A Caring Man
The amateur alchemist held the glass up to the light, carefully inspecting the liquid inside for any discoloration. "That was the last test," he said. "This soup does not contain any poison of which I am aware." "How is that possible? All of the deaths which have occurred so...

Re: Status check
The gaming group I used to lead in person has been remote for almost a year now. We're still able to get a lot out of it: it helps that it is partly over the phone, so we can at least hear each other's voices.

Re: A concept it might be interesting to explore
"Nearly every domain haunted by the Headless Horseman knows a different tale of his origin. In Falkovnia, some say the spirit was a victim of Drakov’s men, wrongfully beheaded. In Barovia, they say he sliced off his own head rather than fall prey to one of Strahds minions, who later gave the h...

Re: Beardoom Hollow
Well for one thing, when the first adventurers appeared, I suspected that they might be the ones responsible for dragging this realm into the mists. Then when a skin thief was mentioned, I suspected that whatever was abducting the children was able to do so because it was disguised as one of those c...

Re: Beardoom Hollow
A grotesque, but interesting story. I made many guesses about the turns it would take, all of which turned out to be wrong by the end.
If you do write up the domain for next year, it will be good to see behind the curtain for an explanation for how this domain's curse came to be.

Fanfiction Recommendations/Links
Recently, I have been enjoying Ravenloft: Champions Of The Mists at fanfiction.net. It has the common premise "people from are world are pulled into a D&D plane", which I tend to enjoy, but may not be everyone's cup of tea. Has anyone else been reading this? Is there any good Ravenloft...

Re: The mysterious El-Koth of Hazlan
Dread Possibility: The Return of the El-Koth There are reports of a strange, deranged pair of twins wandering the Core. They are associated with bizarre mutilations; attempts to graft additional brain matter into a single being. Recently, however, they have begun to search for something---someone. ...

I hadn't been planning to add more, but now that you point it out, the ending isn't entirely resolved, so possibly.Rock wrote:Interesting... Will you be writing more of this tale?

Re: Long-term Recurring Villains
Thank you for sharing the details of this campaign. I'm amazed that you managed to play through such an intricate series of events in "only" two years. It seems like a fiend was a good choice as a recurring villain, since destroying her permanently wouldn't have been possible for the PCs w...

A Caring Man
Gerald received sympathy from the whole village when he cared for his first wife through her mysterious illness. When they had first met, Sarah had been young and vibrant. Everyone was astonished when her health suddenly deteriorated, but they agreed that it was a blessing from the gods that she had...

Re: Long-term Recurring Villains
I once had a guy set up to be a recurring villain, but I vividly recalled some advice from the Ravenloft DMG. Basically, players don't want to hear the tragic backstory once the boss fight music is playing; especially some players. So the first time they ran into the campaign's villain ... they act...

Re: Long-term Recurring Villains
I haven't yet had any recurring villains (there was one villain that I intended to be recurring who the PCs managed to destroy in their first encounter), but would be interesting in seeing the notes on your campaign.

Re: Alignment alternatives
It is a little tangential to this thread as a whole, but as for the reason why powerful NPCs don't intervene, I would give them some even larger problem to deal with occupying their full attention. (Perhaps later, after they die/retire/turn to evil it will become the PCs' problem). As for the nine t...

Re: Goblinoids in the Mists
I use Hazlan. Since the Red Wizard of Thay, inspired by Lotr, created variant orcs in the second edition, the red ones are army high officers The Unapproachable East supplement for the Forgotten Realms had the Blooded One template, which are warriors enhanced by the Red Wizards using a ritual cover...
