Re: The Thaani?
I am getting old... The Thaani naming conventions and character creation are in 'The Barovian Hero' sidebar in Gaz1, but the Bonedaggers and their leader Loie Hunn are based out of 'The Sorcerer's Head' Inn in Toayalis in Hazlan (also covered in Gaz I!). Both Toyalis and Immol bordered Bluetspur bef...

Re: The Thaani?
What is the Ildi'Thaan? Oo! Nearly forgot about those! They're a secret society from Forbidden Lore - Based in Immol if memory serves correct - who were focussed on either stealing power from or evading the Illithid of Bluetspur. Another thought - Bonespur the Mercenary was a Psi if memory serves; ...

Re: The Thaani?
Gaz I has the naming conventions and character creation stuff if memory serves correctly. The Ravenloft DMG also notes what Psionic Classes and Prestige kits are available to the Thanni from the Psionics rules.

Re: What do your Ravenloft campaigns usually look like?
I go Character up. Character gen can take anything up to a month. I negotiate with players individually, then get them to discuss with each other, do a few solo 'preludes' to get a feel for how the characters breathe, followed by a crappy by the book one-shot dungeon crawl or wilderness trek just to...

Re: Ravenloft 1E
I loved the Arthaus product that was produced, but never actually got around to playing 3.5.tarlyn wrote:It is really sad that most people use 3.5 now. 2e and 1e were freakin' the bomb!
I figured that now that 5E is comin out I should really make the effort... but I still find 2E so very elegant.

Re: Population and Size Variants
I'm not that concerned about the presence of occasional high-level NPCs living among low-level communities, mostly because there's bound to be a handful of statistical outliers who've had adventures of their own in a place as plagued by monsters as Ravenloft. Heck, the mere presence of the player c...

Re: Ravenloft System Pros/Cons
Its a bit tangential but WW relaeased Monte Cooks WoD which essentially converts nWoD (vampires, wraiths, werewolves etc) to D20. It doesn't tell you how the conversion is done but it shows a D20 version of nWoD, so I'm sure it can't be that difficult to emulate in your own homebrew. And as its WW ...

Re: Ravenloft System Pros/Cons
Has no one done an nWoD conversion? If that's the case then that surprises me... and also gives me my next project... Of the above my prefered system would be 2nd Ed using the Arthaus materials for support. As a teenager I always found that THAC0 had an elegant simplicity... and the simpler your sys...

Re: Any new word from WotC?
That's what I'm getting at, though. I agree, most people don't see a darklord's curse, but most people don't see darklords at all. They just see rulers. If someone's savvy enough to figure out that there's something mystical about being a darklord, it seems like they should be savvy enough to figur...

Re: Introducing New Players to RL
Well that's partly the crux of the FoS, isn't it? They have figured out that their world is nothing but dreams, and they plot to usurp the role of dreamer. Wasn't there a Shakespeare redux where his characters discover they are characters, and plot to free themselves from his "tyranny of autho...

It's a moral imperative that you have to read I-6 and I-10 - they're absolutely beautiful to read! The proto-Ravenlofty detail is just awe inspiring. Text that just keeps on giving.herkles wrote:Not familar with i-10

Re: The Kargatane in Book of Vile Darkness 4th ed
D&D is not simply a "toy", I think... Or at least not a toy, that could be change so careless... But it is, isn't it? :) Very much so! A toy is something to be 'played' with. I think that 'play' as an effective learning methodology is something that's marginalised in the current socia...
