Re: Magic: the Gathering's Ravenloft revealed: INNISTRAD
From the spoiler: both Olivia and Mikaeus are amped-up awesome. As a mythic rare should be. Thematically, this set would mesh so so well with Ravnica (Orzhov/Dimir particularly) and Shadowmoor/Eventide. And if I didn't know better, I'd question whether this is WotC making up for no official Ravenlof...

Re: Carrion Crown
I had been thinking about where to place these in Ravenloft. "The Haunting of Harrowstone," it seems, is a rather natural fit for Mordent although, really, all that's really required is a hilltop asylum or prison and so it can really fit anywhere. The presence of a church of Pharasma (deit...

Re: 1890 News Paper Articles of Interest
A bit earlier, but here's a tale that made the rounds of newspapers across the East Coast in 1880: The petrified child in the family of J.A. Kinsley, of New Philadelphia, continues to attract general attention, and is considered by all who have seen it to be the wonder of wonders. The hardness has g...

That picture sure looks like Sorin Markov (vampire planeswalker from Zendikar) to me. Same jewelled breastplate thingy and white hair.

Re: Dark «Experience points»(Highlander style RL)
Personally, I'd be all for giving away more HP at first level and then ruling that only feats, skills, etc. are gained at the post-beginning levels. E6 carried to the next level.

Restructuring the Clusters (or the Core, even)
How have the various DMs made the Demiplane their own? Bluetspur-as-moon is one change mentioned, and somewhat reflavoring Kalidnay to be the Sumerian component of the Amber Wastes is another. Both are good ideas, and I'm using them both. I rather like the idea of the Shadow Rift replaced with a hug...

Re: Making Ravenloft more self-contained
Bluetspur is the Moon. I wish I knew who first suggested this, because it is a stroke of genius. Myself and another poster on the old (now very old) Ravenloft mailing list hammered this out years back. We had a lot of very talented people on that list; these days I only recognize a handful of faces...

Re: Movies that have that Ravenloft feel
Most of the old Hammer films (the ones set in Victorian era or early 20th Century) are great for visual inspiration of Mordent. That goes for a lot of the other British productions of the era - films from Tigon and some of Amicus' output. I'm particularly fond of The Reptile (shot back-to-back with ...

Re: Nyarlathotep
Randal Flagg from many of Stephen King books is sugested to be one of the masks of nyarlathotep While The Dark Tower gave Flagg's origin, I prefer to think of him as Nyarlathotep to the Crimson King's Azathoth. I prefer the old demonic Flagg from The Stand. While we're on the topic of Nyarlathotep ...

One of his avatars was named Lostalus Black. Unfortunately, I can't remember much about said avatar .... If I remember right, I think Black just showed up in one adventure ("Look to the Future," in Shadows of Yog-Sothoth) and was only described as an occultist. Once again if I recall, he ...

Re: Superstitions, regional and generic.
Here in eastern PA, the Pennsylvania Dutch have a lot of odd superstitions, some of which are probably imported from Germany. Most of them are old "hex" recipes. [*] If you slaughter a pig for pork, you need to do it during the period of a waxing moon, otherwise the meat will be shrunken a...

After this book, I have a pretty darn... out there theory on who Demandred is. I might be wrong. And knowing me, probably am.

Re: New to the Forum? introduce yourself here!
*bows* I'm Andrew. I'm not really new. I've been here before, long ago, under an SN I don't even recall at the present. As you might guess from the name, I tend towards Masque of the Red Death, but I really waffle back and forth between Masque and Ravenloft proper. And Cthulhu by Gaslight, but that'...
