Re: showing falkovinian opression

For non-native PCs, there's a simple way to demonstrate this: "Where are your papers?" Everywhere they go, every NPC in a position of power they talk to, it's always the same question. If they don't have papers, nothing gets done. If they do have papers, those papers are constantly under t...

Escalation in Verbrek

So, last session, my players found themselves in Verbrek, in a town that was living in fear of a local werewolf pack (which, from what I understand, is about 90% of the country). They chased off the pack and killed about half of them, but real life intervened so we had to call it there. My question ...

Re: Ideas for a new campaign. Druid Dark lord.

This seems like the exact thing the cult of the Wolf God would be involved in. I know that's all bound up in werewolf stuff, but if you want a dark and hungry god for your druid to get behind, the Wolf God is the way to go. Alternately, if it's about appeasing the forest rather than survival of the ...

Re: Elizabeth Bathory as a Dark Lord

I tend to just roll her into Ivana Bortirsi - she keeps up a good facade, but eventually the PCs are going to find her freaky torture-dungeon.

Witches!

So, The Craft is on TV tonight, and it's made me want to use Dementlese Hags for my next session. What have you guys done with hags? Tell me your stories.

Re: Personal Canon

There's no such place as Timor. The Marilith exist, but they're a degenerate doppelganger clan rather than their own thing. Sodo banished them generations ago, and now forbids his own followers from travelling underground to prevent them from reuniting with their lost cousins.

Re: Complaints from my player

Ok, let's flip this around - what does your player actually want from a D&D game? Ravenloft's a big, almost-meta setting, there has to be a way to do it.

Re: The Fiendish Races and Ravenloft

Oh, it's worse than that - they're Good PCs (well, the two strongest personalities in the group are CG and LN-but-tendiing-G respectively), so they can't just throw it away. Their first question whenever they go through the Mists of lose any gear or anything like that is 'Where's the box?'

Re: The Fiendish Races and Ravenloft

I tend to use fiends as sui generis guys - no Blood War, no Abyss/9 Hells, fiends just come from somewhere else when you want something to make a faustian bargain with. My demons are more inspired by Hellraiser than anything else - they're either summoned via a Box (which the PCs currently have - th...

Re: Lamordia

My Lamordia - borderline nazis. As they're the only country that has links with Falkovnia, I figure there are a few big, old families with relatives in both countries, and the Lamordians are sympathetic to Falkovnia's 'struggle against Darkonese opression.' Other than that, it's similar to what a lo...

Re: Personal Canon

Leo Dilisnya (I think? Can't remember his name) didn't have Ezra appear to him. Instead, he was a minor conman at the time she was alive, who travelled with her, became her first disciple and, after her ascenscion, writes the first Book of Ezra about their time together. This is also the only contem...

Re: Evil player characters in Ravenloft: A Dissenting View

But if everyone on the team is going through the same struggle, it's a bit too World of Darkness for me. This is kinda my attitude as well. You could conceivably have evil Ravenloft PCs, but there are other games out there that do it better. If I want horrible-people-doing-horrible-things-to-one-an...

Re: Can there be any treants in Barovia

I'm fairly sure one of the monsterbooks (the 3rd ed one?) explicitly mentions evil treants. They've got creepy Disney-Sleepy-Hollow faces.

Re: What redeeming features do you give your Dark Lords?

- Tristessa: loves children. (never really understood her darklordship in terms of her sins) I did something similar with Tristessa. All she wants is a child. She's crazy and evil and dangerous, but it's an understandable crazy and evil and dangerous, to the point where the one player in my group w...

Re: Personal Canon

While we're talking about clerics, practically no-one's heard of the Morninglord outside Barovia. The people who have are typically high-ranking Paladins and Clerics of other religions, all of whom have nothing but admiration for the Morninglord's followers - they see them as this crazy peasant cult...
