Strangely enough, the nearby city of Turin has historically been completely free of shroud-eaters.

Of course there's dozens of different kinds of scalpel blade, each designed for different tissues and types of incision. What if your opponent has a #22 blade and you only have a #15?

This could get complicated.

Jester of the FoS wrote:"The dragons you encounter are ancient wyrms of truly earthshaking power" Nope, only one in the Core.
I thought there were two?

I think an epic-level character would just start waking up each morning coated with progressively thicker layers of mother-of-pearl.

That seems profoundly unfair, somehow. The whole reason for killing a vampire is that it wants to drink your blood. So you battle this incredibly powerful supernatural entity, and you kill it... and it immediately comes back as a different supernatural entity that wants to drink your blood. Only thi...

Here's a thought: Instead of basing the effect on "The Happening," why not base it on the TV sitcom "What's Happening!!" The victim inexplicably experiences visions of 'Dwayne' and 'Rerun,' until he is driven to commit suicide by the quickest means possible. This usually takes ab...

Something in the water, maybe? Tiny worms that lay their eggs in carrion, and so drive the victim to kill themselves to ensure an immediate supply. Fish throw themselves onto land; animals drown themselves or leap off cliffs. Or maybe a post-hypnotic suggestion. Certain common words or situations se...

What if the jar was a punishment for wayward members? "These robes got laundry numbers on 'em. Any cultist forgets his number spends a night in the jar. These here sacrificial daggers you keep with you. Any cultist loses his dagger spends a night in the jar. No fighting in the temple. You got ...

I was trying to think of a plausible scenario for a giant shark being supernaturally imprisoned inside a jar... Then I remembered that the town in the Jaws movies was named Amity. Somehow I got it confused with Amityville of the titular Horror films. If I recall aright (which, as the above indicates...

The homunculus of Paracelsan alchemy, it is said, will mature to resemble a perfect adult human albeit in miniature. However, it cannot leave the confines of its jar for long, because it cannot breathe air but only the vital fluid in which it was grown. Several such creatures are depicted in the mov...

My first thought on seeing the new Strahd portrait was that he looks more like a restaurant waiter, theater usher, or a hotel bell captain than an epically powerful undead darklord. Well yeah, but he's an epically powerful theater usher. I think you may be selling theater ushers a bit short here. R...

But who's fault is that? It isn't WotC's, as they never gave any indication that there would be a Necromancer class in the book. Instead, they've been pretty clear on where people could expect to find new races and classes. So however you came by your erroneous expectations, it isn't any of WotC's ...

No, but they do have many, many complaints from players and fans who are annoyed with picking-up a $35 DM/monster book for the ten feats and three spells it includes. And the DMs who are annoyed when every player has a copy of the adventure they're running because it contains a couple prestige clas...

WotC is dumping the idea of having every book have PC rules (classes/PrC/feats/spells) AND having DM information (monsters, traps, etc). Books will be DM or player specific (with very few exceptions like the Manual of the Planes ). Necromancers will likely be tied to the shadow power source (like i...

Well this is a fine how-do-you-do. It's just a bestiary for variant undead? Back when it was first announced, I had gotten the impression that it would also incorporate rules for necromancers, expanding beyond the nerfed necromancy spells in the PH. I guess that material must have gone by the waysid...
