The denizens of the Wounded City are all of the same general race. They are generally somewhat short, swarthy, and wear thin moustaches and goatees. Most have brown eyes, with the occasional black popping up. Hair is frequently dark, but not necessarily black.
Around the oases outside the city, examples of all the races of Al-Kathos are to be found, although the city-folk dominate. These people do not trust the vizier, abd-al-Mamat, or his justice, frequently claiming that he cannot possibly be a human being. This typically leads to the constables, and perhaps a minor judge or two, rounding up several for a mass execution or maiming. Still, the constant, if slow, flow of people to the outer parts of the city makes certain that there will be more treasonous tounges to cut out in the future.
Aside from the al-Kathos gods, the god Amauntor has a presence in the city. The god is not popular outside the city walls, but has his own shrine in a temple opposite to the Vizier's palace.
Natives of the City can be of all classes and races, with the exception of gypsies and half-Vistani. Characters gain the Endurance proficiencies for free, but most live in such dread of the law that they must make a horror check for any violation significant enough to truly be a crime.
Characters of any alignment other than lawful need to make a horror check at the start of their carreer. Thereafter, any subsequent violations of the law do not affect them - as they are considered to have burned out the fear of the law with the horror check. However, they may fall victim to prosecution.
