Meazels are Small monstrous humanoids of malevolent and sneaky natures that dwell in marshes, sewers, and underground environments[1][2]. They are known to be native to Faerun, especially Cormyr[2]. Meazels are almost entirely solitary creatures[1][2]. Appearing as deformed, scabrous creatures resembling lepers, meazels carry a horrid skin disease that seems to cause them no harm save for the disfiguring red patches on their skin[1][2]. The same cannot be said for their victims, whom are gradually drained of their health and dexterity[2].

Meazels lie in wait for victims, and they readily attack and consume humanoids for their flesh, usually preying upon kobolds or orcs but will readily eat other prey.[1]. From ambush, a meazel may attack with a garrote cord to strangle victims[1]. Meazels can also attack with their claws[1][2], through which they pass their skin disease[2].

Meazels are not merely malicious ambushers but also greedy thieves, for their greed compels them to rob dead bodies of all the victim's former possessions. This even extends to objects that the meazel has no use for, such as ill-fitting armor or weapons. A meazel keeps such gear in its lair, where these stolen possessions may be slept upon like a bed. This lair is infested with rats and mundane scavenger vermin, cleaning up the lair but also serving as food for the meazel.[1].

In the Land of Mists

A Faerunian meazel named Salizarr was taken by the Mists to Darkon, where he inhabited the sewers of Il Aluk and came up to the surface from time to time acting as a serial killer.[3]
